I attended Lonegan’s victory rally in Secaucus last night. This man is prepared to bring a relentless fight directly to Booker and will not be cowed by the accusations of racism that will certainly come his way.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think Booker will personally want to bring such accusations, but if the polls tighten I suspect he will find it hard to resist calls for him to do so coming from his friends in D.C. and Hollywood. Third party progressive and liberal PACs not under the control of Booker will certainly play the race card eventually (probably within the last two weeks of the race). No conservative Republican can ever be allowed to think that they are not brutal racists at heart, right?
Cory Booker did not mention Steve Lonegan by name in his victory speech.
Is he telegraphing a strategy of ignoring Lonegan as a means of projecting utter confidence in victory?
I don’t think he will be able to avoid engaging Lonegan and when he does, it will be on Lonegan’s terms. Lonegan has been laying out specific policy differences with Booker for weeks now and will not be ignored.
To win in NJ any Republican has to be able to attract independent voters. Lonegan can rely on Republicans (myself included) to vote for him, but he needs to be able to appeal to middle of the road voters as well. I’d STRONGLY suggest he gets a ‘coach/consultant’ to teach him how to ‘make nice’ &’smile’ while getting out his message without appearing to be the ‘angry candidate’.
Ridgewod is a “Limo Liberal ” some say far left town and Booker not only campaigned in Ridgewood but had an office,
With all that Booker could not even double Lonegans tally
I think you all are wrong, but we shall see. I think Booker will sail to victory.
Booker’s smiling visage will attract low-information voters this year. Lonegan’s most important task is to reduce the population of low-information voters to the absolute minimum by relentlessly pounding Booker on the issues from now until Wednesday, October 16th . He can smile on the way into and out of campaign events. Every piece of Lonegan footage any reporter manages to record needs to include at least one specific policy condemnation of Booker.
Blue state that has made a few big mistakes, including the current governor, will come out for Booker big time.
Some of NJ’s biggest mistakes:
McGreevy, Florio, Bradley, Lautenberg, Toricelli.. whoops they’re all democrats! Our current Gov is a breath of fresh air. Interestingly before he became Gov, as US Attorney he did the best he could to clean up the mess voters put us in by sending corrupt politicians to jail. Whoops, another bunch of Democrats. I doubt the NJ voters will wake up and send a Republican to washington. I’m sure the Democrats will scare voters that they will lose their EBT cards if Corey doesnt get in.
