Village of Ridgewood : Van Neste Memorial Park “Revival” project

Mayor & Council:
I am still not clear as to where the hundreds of commemorative bricks will be moved to following the proposed “revival” of Van Neste Memorial Park.
If, as the Village Manager stated on August 3, “all of the the existing brick pavers will be removed and replaced with decorative concrete sidewalks,” what area will be left to install the displaced commemorative bricks without having to disturb grass or shrubbery?
Also, what will happen to the large commemorative markers associated with the 1995 restoration project? And what about the thousands (literally) of unmarked bricks; what will become of them?
The walking paths within the park currently appear to be in excellent shape. Therefore, I question the need to spend money (grant money still comes from taxes) to fix something that is not broken, and displace history in the process.
Boyd – check out who owns the construction / masonry company in westwood and who is he connected to at the village hall. I best they will be the lowest bidders for this project. Then keep an eye on fishing trip / vacation schedule of someone.
8:18 – remodeling of a park is very expensive and should be done when things deteriorate. This park is beautiful. There is no need to renovate it. This is just spending money in order for someone SOMEONE to make money. Concrete pavers will not be an improvement.
The Village Council should not miss a single opportunity to put a firm grip on the comings, the goings, and most importantly, the OPM spending patterns and priorities of the legacy Village Manager. Along these lines, the VC should probabky press the pause button, indefinitely, on the contemplated renovation project in Van Neste Square. The next thing we will learn is that a half million dollars has already been spent on landscape architecture plans that will go to waste if the project doesn’t go forward immediately.
A grant for bike lanes under the Complete Streets program led to the Garber Square fiasco and cost us 5 times the amount that the grant was for,. Now we have another grant and we’re using it to fix Van Neste Park which everyone seems to feel is in great shape! What happened to the old adage, ” If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” ?
1.17 is completely correct.
Seems a pattern here…a bit more attention to litter and general park bench & general minor maintenance would be money well spent.Park is quite actively used and it’s the highest point in towns commercial center..a gem..musical and community events profile it’s potential and community draw.Thank heavens that Meg’s Garage and street reversals were stopped by citizen action referendum. We need to watch these type of signals from the spending club in city hall.
Queen bee is getting a grant and wants to continue to screw things up.This is what she does best. The park seems to be in fine shape so why not leave alone.
The cheesy black aluminum fence all the way around will make it way less accessible and will make it look like a giant dog pen. $40,000 for that mess alone.
Let’s have Paul Vaggianos build some crappy stone walls around the park, and then let’s have a stage on which Roberta can sing Liar Liar Pants on Fire while bobbling her head to the music.

Damn right, why are they fixing something not broken. And they are debating about spending money for dredging up Kings Pond that really needs it.
They will get rid of some of the walking paths, I bet. They will be bricked over.
Can a line form at next council meeting to tell them?
The park is not a cemetery. We are not relocating bodies, just pavers.
The bricks were sold for one remodel. Now we have a new remodel.
Thank you Boyd. I agree completely. What a terrible mistake it would be to destroy these beautiful commemorative pathways.

What exactly do these pathways commemorate?

Masonary at pool handicap ramp was a complete cost overrun fiasco
Broken ground means open season on change orders when a pipe or widget us uncovered. ADA ISSUES START SURFACING TOO
9:29 Take a walk up there and find out. Its ok no one will bit you there.
8:04 am, because Kings pond does not have any concrete or tree removal work. That’s where the money is.

Just got back from a trip to the West Side. Coming home I observed one lone biker. He was using the sidewalk. Smart man, dumb bike lane.
Where is the fences going? Do they have plans to put on Walnut St or is it going all the way around ? ( Don’t fence us in)
The cheesy black aluminum fence all the way around will make it way less accessible and will make it look like a giant dog pen. $40,000 for that mess alone.
I smell the Chamber and Guild involvement in this. Next they will want a gazebo. Leave it open.
Het Wrecking Crew where is the LED sign going to be located. Im sure you want everyone to know what event is taking place in the park.
We need a green concrete path for bikes in case they ride in the park. Right Mr Engineer? Dam we could more more from the state for that.
Let’s have Paul Vaggianos build some crappy stone walls around the park, and then let’s have a stage on which Roberta can sing Liar Liar Pants on Fire while bobbling her head to the music.
Oh yes 10:09, and then Siobhan Winograd and Jan Phillips can sing a duet of Why Can’t We Be Friends, you know, the song from WAR
why the hell do we need fence? In this town most homeowners don’t use fence. Are we in paterson?
No, No 10:22 maybe they will put in a fire pit so we can all come together and sing .
