Midland Park NJ, Bergen County Department of Human Services, division of Alternatives to Domestic Violence (BCDHS/ADV) is currently recruiting volunteers for a regional team that will respond to victims of domestic violence at police departments located in Bergen County municipalities. Volunteers from the community are trained to offer necessary information and referrals to victims at a time when they need it most.
Applicants will be required to consent to a criminal background check, urine test, be finger printed and attend a 40-hour training. BCDHS/ADV has provided family violence prevention, community education, and emergency intervention services in Bergen County for the past 40 years.
This sounds a little dangerous to be a volunteer. Quite a number of law enforcement personnel have been killed responding to domestic violence calls.
Volunteer for that, don’t think so. Aren’t police trained for this. I know they do not like responding to the meta-calls. In the end it’s a pain in the ass. Just curious is there maybe a phone call phone number assistance program that people can reach out to,
Domestic violence crisis response volunteers don’t respond to the calls. They help the victims in the aftermath with all that is involved in picking up the pieces. The last thing someone needs in that moment, is judgmental friends, or an opportunistic lawyer looking to make a buck.
