Ridgewood NJ, Now that everyone knows it’s perfectly legal to place non-commercial signs basically any place you want to in Ridgewood, they’ll be popping up everywhere as evidenced by this “Ridgewood Thanksgiving Day Run” sign, one of several placed in flower pots within the Central Business District.

Thanks Paul A. and Paul V. for starting the unsightly trend.

  1. You get the government you voted for.

  2. I am outraged.

  3. This really looks like crap. I am going to post signs for my daughters birthday party and signs wishing my mother a happy 100th birthday. Why the hell not? Everyone has a cause that is near and dear. No special treatment for anyone. No judgement about which cause warrant signs and which does not. The town will look ridiculous. Stop this nonsense now.

  4. Shouldn’t we worried about getting property taxes from Valley and restitution from Tommy Boy Rica for the $500,000 in quarters he stole from us? Signs for a Thanksgiving Day run – which is a worthy event BTW- merit more attention from the author of this article?

  5. @1:02…we should be worried about all of it.

  6. The powers that be want a dump then so be it , very little un the village is enforced any more.

  7. 12:45, happy birthday to your mom! Cake for everyone in town, on a stick.

  8. Put them in the planter wall outside Its Greek to Me.

  9. Why is that huge election sign still posted at the old car dealership?

  10. 1:02 maybe they should put all those signs on your property and then when your house value goes down then you will be concerned. The signs are a blight. Just because you think its a worth cause its ok but it not. Your thinking is in line with our Mayor. He’s he ok with it then everyone else should be.

  11. oh yes they did , I have seen this not only in the states, but also in canada too.

  12. The huge election sign is still up at the old car dealership because one of the candidates is in like Flint with our mayor.

  13. Towns heading for the crap heap.crap heaps get exploited..then the exploiters leave with the cash. Leaving behind..liabilities higher taxes and property value losses

  14. 1:02 the author of this article directs plenty of attention to issues that are larger and more important. I agree with 1:07, we should worry about all of it. The whole town is going to hell under this reign of terror.

  15. who is paying for the over time on the police for this run, is the town paying the bill for this or is the runner’s organization fliping the bill.

  16. Place,looks like shit

  17. Yard Sale signs!

In front of Its Greek to Me

  18. good luck.

  19. why is this on thanks given day, come on who has time for this.

  20. Also 5:11 he wants us to remember his name so he can continue the 3 Amigos legacy when he runs for council in 2016

  21. Vagianos & Ordway sign at old car dealership is gone now. Removed yesterday or today.

  22. Yes your right 11:19 but I hear the Mayor already has the spaced reserved for his re-election sign.

  23. Isn’t it funny. We never heard any of these complaints about signs when it was anti-Valley signs on every other lawn. Quit being such hypocrits. Be honest, you only care about signs when you don’t agree with them.
As for making the place look like a dump, how about streets that are almost impassable due to the huge piles of leaves/branches/pumpkins that are out for weeks at a time? If you cared about how the town looked you would bag your leaves. Oh yeah, that would mean more work for you wouldn’t it. Hypocrits!

    1. WRONG , Valley even attempted to have the signs banned and many in the Village council tried to go along with it

  24. Note that this past summer the Supreme Court struck down some restrictions on “sign laws” by municipalities: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/06/18/supreme-court-reaffirms-broad-prohibition-on-content-based-speech-restrictions-in-todays-reed-v-town-of-gilbert-decision/
The decision seems complex, but from what I can tell you are allowed to restrict signage overall, but can’t have different rules for different types of signs. For example, you can’t create a rule that allows political signs but disallows signs advertising an upcoming event. This may have some impact on Ridgewood in the future!

  25. If you would like to file a complaint regarding the signage in our CBD, please email hmailander@ridgewoodnj.net or call the Village Clerk’s office at 201-670-5500 ext 201
