The benefits of walking are backed by various studies that show it can lead to improvements in cardiovascular health, concentration and mental well-being. In addition, more walking can result in environmental benefits like improved air quality and diminished traffic.

But in a village where pedestrian safety has been an issue, a push for walking and biking to school in the month of May is being accompanied by an enhanced push for safety awareness.

This month, the Federated Home and School Association (HSA) is reinforcing its “Stop, Look, Wave: Be Safe Be Seen” initiative, which was launched last year following several pedestrian accidents.
