Paramus NJ, Route 17 was closed in both direction on Wednesday after a tractor trailer caught fire in front of Pier 1 across from the Fireplace at the Ridgewood Avenue exit. There may have been interruption in telephone, cable and electrical service. Wires were down causing heavy delays . It appears the truck careened off the highway hitting a utility pole.
Paramus Fire, Paramus Police, Paramus OEM, and the Paramus Rescue Squad responded to the incident along with representatives from NJDOT. The highway was closed for several hours to facilitate roadway cleanup and restoration of utility services. The truck driver was reportedly uninjured; a medical episode may caused him to lose control of his rig.
Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera said ,”When it rains it pours, route 17 closed in both directions and will be for a while in front of the Fireplace. There may be interruption in telephone, cable and electrical service. All our personnel and volunteers are safe.”
