Ridgewood NJ, as part of the town’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) application, a wetlands assessment is required for the Schedler property. While recent Village Council and Fields Committee meetings have noted on-the-record that wetlands might not exist at Schedler, the final determination lies with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).

The NJDEP is currently conducting its assessment, with a site visit anticipated in the spring of 2025. Until the NJDEP completes its evaluation, the presence—or absence—of wetlands at Schedler remains uncertain.

NJDEP: The Final Authority

The NJDEP is the sole authority for determining the status of wetlands on the property. Their findings will guide the town’s next steps in the SHPO application process, ensuring compliance with environmental and preservation regulations.

Transparent Process for Public Awareness

For transparency, all documents related to the Schedler property—applications, permits, timelines, violations, and remediation plans—are publicly accessible on the NJDEP website. This open access ensures residents can stay informed about the ongoing process and any developments tied to Schedler.

What’s Next?

The NJDEP’s site visit in spring 2025 will be a critical step in determining the status of wetlands on the Schedler property. Residents are encouraged to follow updates through the NJDEP’s official website for reliable information.

  1. You guys will latch onto any possible excuse, no matter how outlandish, to prevent any progress on that park.

  2. If you think that’s a lot of water, that’s nothing, the blog has received numerous pictures with a tremendous amount of water at a few of the locations on that site before they brought all that contaminated fill.

  3. And regarding that contaminated, Phil, has the village reached out to the employees who have worked at that location to make sure they’re healthy. This is lingering on to 2025 now so far the village has done a poor job with any screening on the behalf of Their health. They should be ashamed of themselves. It’s amazing how the mayor, the council, the Village manager, the village engineering, the health department, are hiding behind the village attorney on this subject. Talk about not performing their duties. Well, that’s what they’re saying Down at the state house in Trenton.

  4. Plans for a sports field are over. Project is dead.

  5. The village idiots, lead by the puppet master Vagianos are all in agreement, turn your head, don’t look, lie as much as you can about everything and build that park at all costs, which it will eventually cost. They don’t give a hoot about safety or the residents. The potential for wetlands is just a minor inconvenience to them in their plan to destroy that property. Just wait.

  6. Common sense would suggest that the Village revert to the original plan, and stop the sports field nonsense. It is too small a space, too close to Route 17 (safety), and unnecessary. Proper scheduling and planning for the use of our existing fields is the answer. This new Schedler sports complex is already too expensive and divisive. There are no wetlands there, just puddles like everywhere else. Just more unfortunate divisive posturing.
