Long Beach Island NJ, groups that have been at the forefront of the effort to halt plans for hundreds of electricity-generating wind turbines in the Atlantic Ocean have taken their campaign to court.
The groups ,Save LBI, Defend Brigantine Beach and Protect Our Coast NJ claim state officials ignored evidence the massive structures will harm the offshore environment in their approvals.
The legal action naming the state Department of Environmental Protection and company developing the offshore wind project was filed with the state Appellate Division, the normal venue for challenging the decision of a state agency. A previous lawsuit filed by wind-power opponents was rejected by a federal judge earlier this year.
U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-4) said that the Government Accountability Office told him it had agreed to investigate the potential role preliminary work on the offshore wind project might be playing in numerous marine mammal deaths.

FACT: There are no operational offshore windmills or wind generating structures anywhere along the NJ coastline.
Yet this year there has been an increase in whale deaths, despite no windmills. I’m not for or against the offshore windmills, but this is the natural cycle of life along the shoreline, be it human or marine. In 1997 there were more than 22 drownings along the Jersey shore. This was something like a 300-400% increase from the prior year. And then the next year we want back to the 6 or 7 drownings per summer.
Officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, say no whale deaths have been attributed to offshore wind farms or survey activity. The agency has been monitoring unusual death rates among certain species of whales, dating back to 2016. The greatest threat to the large animals, according to NOAA officials, are ship strikes and entanglement with fishing gear and other human detritus.
So before we start jumping to conclusions and attributing cause or blame to windmills, let’s at least get some scientific data!
its called sonar https://theridgewoodblog.net/new-data-suggests-whale-deaths-surge-is-in-tandem-with-and-proximity-to-offshore-wind-survey-vessel-activities/

All of the whales washing ashore are being autopsied by NOAA and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. Particular attention is being paid to their acoustical organs and tissues. Thus far, NOAA and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center have determined that the causes of death are NOT related to any survey/sonar activities. They have been caused by blunt force trauma and propellor wounds. And there has NOT been a statistically significant increase in the number of injured/dead marine mammals this year when compared with the past 30 years of data. The most likely scenario is that this winters warm waters brought marine mammal closer to shore so they wash up before they disintegrate and sink Facts matter.
Keep sending off you $$ to environmental groups who sensationalize non-issues. But before you do, keep in mind that Clean Ocean Actions new “offices” are in a $1.5 million house one block from the beach. And tax exempt to boot! Google 49 Avenel Blvd, Long Branch, NJ 07740 and tell me if that looks like an office or a house to you. They needed that to protect the ocean? They do some good work, including questioning wind farms, but the marine mammal deaths are most certainly not related to survey activities. https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/49-Avenel-Blvd_Long-Branch_NJ_07740_M60305-06735

I love when a Democrat funded site , tell you, you are funded by vested interests , FYI it takes 3times the GW(giga watts) of solar or wind to replace the same of nuke, coal or natural gas
