Glen Rock NJ, Today, Barry Wilkes, a local businessman and 35-year resident of Glen Rock, and Dan Corey, energy investment professional, announced their run for Glen Rock Borough Council. Wilkes and Corey – both first-time candidates for office – bring diverse experience and a spirit of community service to the race.
“I am proud and humbled that members of our community have asked me to run for this position after settling here over 35 years ago. I have never left because of the wonderful life this town has given to me, my wife, and three children. Out of immense gratitude, I am seeking a position on the Borough Council to give back and foster unity in our community, as well as ensure that the families who call Glen Rock home can afford to stay here,” said Barry Wilkes.
“Growing up in Glen Rock, I always envisioned Glen Rock as a town to come home to.” said Dan Corey. “When it was time for my wife and I to grow our own family roots, GR was the perfect place. It’s a true honor to have the support of friends and neighbors in my hometown to encourage me to run for council. I’m eager to serve the community that helped me do my part of the good in the world; I would be blessed to share the same enthusiasm we all have for Glen Rock to continue making this a place we call home by serving on Borough Council.”
About Barry Wilkes
Barry Wilkes is a 35-year resident of Glen Rock and has run successful, family-owned businesses in Bergen and Passaic Counties throughout his life.
Born in Fair Lawn, Wilkes moved to Glen Rock in 1984 and has remained in the same residence where he raised his family ever since. As a young man, he took over the operations of his family’s business, Wilkes Delicatessen, started by his grandparents in the late 1930s. Wilkes, however, was not content to sit still in the family’s flagship Ridgewood store. Instead, he led his family in expanding the classic Bergen County brand into 11 different locations, creating dozens of jobs and ownership opportunities for young employees. In 1988, he opened Delfran Enterprises, Inc. in Paterson, NJ, a wholesale distribution company that served a number of food establishments in the area. Currently, he develops and manages the businesses’ real estate portfolio.
Wilkes is a proud graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University where he graduated magna cum laude with his bachelor’s degree after attending classes at night while running his businesses and raising his family with the support of his loving wife, Kim. He also attended Don Bosco Preparatory High School and, in 2005, was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame for ongoing civic responsibility through business and community service.
Wilkes served on the Glen Rock Planning Board where he served from 1992 to 2003. Additionally, he served as a Bergen County Republican Committee Member for over 20 years and is a past Republican Municipal Chairman. He has been a longtime member of the Glen Rock Republican Club and served as a past president. He was involved with Rotary International for 25 years and is a founding member in two clubs, The Ridgewood AM Rotary Club and The Bergen Sunset Club. He co-chaired Ridgewood High School’s Rotary Interact Program for 12 years. Through Rotary, he worked on several projects, including Habitat for Humanity, in Bergen County. He was given Rotary’s Gift of Life Humanitarian Award and was named a Paul Harris Fellow for his service. He worked for many years with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and was awarded the Bergen Council Good Scout Award in 1998 by the Boy Scouts of America for community involvement.
Wilkes has been married to his wife Kim for thirty-six years and, together, they have three children, Charles, Rebecca, and Barry, along with two grandchildren, Thomas and Liam.
About Dan Corey
Dan Corey is a lifelong “Glen Rocker.” Born in Ridgewood, Corey grew up in the Glen Rock school system, where his mother was a teacher since 1966. He was a varsity athlete with the Glen Rock Panthers and an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 15. He went on to graduate from Moravian College with a bachelor’s degree studying financial economics, physics, and mathematics. With a broad career in finance where he specializes in renewable energy infrastructure development, investment, and operations across the US, Asia, and Africa, he is currently pursuing an MBA through Rutgers Business School.
Corey has worked in and with a number of Fortune 500 companies in a domestic and global footprint. Beginning his career with Bear Stearns and JP Morgan, he worked in the principal investment group, municipal investment banking, and community lending departments to gain a broad expertise in infrastructure, energy and taxation finance.
His expertise lies in bringing financial tools to aid small towns across rural America over the last decade. Corey has since worked with municipal governments and school administrations across the country to integrate renewable energy generation into their communities.
Bringing his experience closer to home, Corey also served as a corporate partner to the New York City Mayor’s office in order to organize and implement Energy Efficiency projects and monitoring for commercial real estate in New York City.
Inspired by the emergency response in Hoboken after Hurricane Sandy, Corey answered the call of duty to his community by joining the New Jersey Army National Guard in 2017. Through this service, Corey leads as an officer with the 1-102ND Cavalry to guide and train soldiers through all aspects of combat training and emergency preparedness.
Corey has been married to his wife Heather for eleven years and together they have three sons, Daniel, Alex and Scott.
