Ridgewood NJ, in May Princeton, because of their new Sustainable Landscaping Ordinance, joined the growing list of towns that are banning gas-powered leaf blowers . Printon has banned their use from May 16, 2022 through September 30, 2022. The town is by no means unique in starting to protect residents, landscaping workers, and the environment from the noise and pollutants generated by two-stroke gas engines such as those used in gas leaf blowers.
The ordinance is part of a major trend. Over 50 towns and cities in the U.S. have some kind of ban on gas leaf blowers. Most bans are seasonal, like Princeton’s, permitting gas leaf blowers only in the fall, when they are used primarily for leaves, and in some towns like Princeton also in the spring, when they are intended to be used for “spring cleanup.” 12 towns in New York state and seven towns in Illinois have seasonal bans. In New Jersey, Montclair, Summit, and South Orange all have seasonal bans. Like Princeton’s ordinance, most towns’ ordinances permit electric leaf blowers all year round.

I hate those noisy,smelly, polluting gas blowers. The noise can be deafening, not to mention the stink of the gas exhaust. They should be banned. Confine leaf blowers to electric. Or here’s a thought….. does anyone know what a rake is?

How about considering controlling the hours we all can use them. The village leaf crews turn them on way before 7am. At times at 530 6am . Please stop.

Bigger fish to fry like fixing the roads. Limit the time permitted to weekdays 9-5; Saturday 9-1pm.
Leave the leaf blowers alone. Neighbors that use landscapers should hire the same company so the noise is contained to one day!

Why can’t they start Pushing leaves at 6 o’clock And continue to maybe 1 o’clock. Intern all the towns they work every Saturday from the start. No excuse. And please don’t come back to us and say there’s no money in the budget. There’s plenty of money. Stop that old wives story.

The spring clean-up has begun! And, with it, the landscapers who employ throngs of (questionably legal) workers who brandish GAS leafblowers whose use will certainly cause hearing damage to those within earshot. Would I pay 3x for landscapers to use rakes? Absolutely!
Easy solution: use electric leafblowers, which are significantly quieter!!

those things need to be banned it is obscene. why is that amount of noise allowed because it is from blowers? if i went outside at those hours and played music or did anything else at that noise level daily nearly all day long, somehow i have a feeling all the big mouth hypocrits defending blowers would be calling the cops non stop. you think you have estates or something because you get hordes of desperate illegals that hate you to crawl all over the place making noise? disgusting and the owners of these companies need to be shut down and jailed. they are all breaking the law.

I have nothing against gas equipment if they are used under strict schedules. My biggest issue is not landscapers during the week but my neighbor who every single Saturday or Sunday will pick 2-3 hours in the most calming moment of the day and turn the cul de sac into a war zone. 3-4 passes on the grass in the summer, starting with a push mower, switching to a tractor and then to a blower, all the while keeping his earmuffs without a care in the world about the neighbors . Complete insanity that affects everybody’s quality of life. Since town ordinances do not apply to residents, I hope and pray they are banned. The disregard for neighbors is disgusting.
Have you ever consider that your neighbor works and has to do lawn work on the weekend? It takes him longer than landscapers with massive equipment? Are you willing to pay a landscaper to do his property? Are you willing to live next door to an unkept property in order for his NOT to do his lawn on the weekend?
My biggest issue is with landscapers who come during the week while I am working, often on conference calls. I can’t hear a thing over those commercial mowers. They don’t care if my windows are open, they blow my neighbors crap right into my open windows. And during spring/fall clean-ups, they will enter my yard without checking to see if my dog is out. They’ve left the gate open several times and my dog has gotten out and almost gotten killed. So I’ll take a neighbor doing his lawn any day of the week.

This ban will ultimately cost the people more money in a village where taxes are already sky high. Realistically the cost to maintain your home will ultimately increase. Saying ignorant things like get a rake? That isn’t a solution. If you have a landscaper maintain your property – the cost will absolutely increase! Using a rake takes much more time and labor to clear debris. Plus, now these companies are going to have to purchase/maintain and train with new equipment also raising costs. Electric blowers can’t cover as much ground compared to a gas blower. You can only use an electric leaf blower for 15-20 minutes before you need to change the battery! The defense to protect workers and residents from noise pollution- utter BS. Thats why (PPE) ear protection is utilized!

I am a landscape contractor that has been working in ridgewood since the 1970’s and the town has gone down hill and is accellerating with all of the dumb communist policy lovers that are moving here. What a shame to see a once great town slowly turn unbearable. Its also the decendats that are now buying homes or inheriting homes that got brainwashed in leftist universities. They think that they are smart while steam rolling to their demise by aiding and abetting the ones in control of their weak minds.
I’m listening to the DEAFENING sound of 4 or 5 leaf blowers 2 houses away! Even with over-the-ear headphones, the sound is deafening!
