EAST RUTHERFORD — Work on the American Dream mall has been just about non-existent, months after it was reported in December that construction had stalled.

Borough Mayor James L. Cassella says he has been in the dark about the billion-dollar mega-project, but is hopeful construction will start again soon.

“I haven’t seen much, maybe a few people, a couple of cars parked,” said Cassella last week. “There aren’t a lot of people down there.”

  1. Surprise Surprise..folks ,the smart money and the REITS look for Location,Competition.
    Longer term viability and Access.

Sears ,Kmart and so many other failing Malls and go to Retail mixed use
Locations ,Malls and entertainment centers have or on the way to failure.

Only in NJ do we double down and go all-in on an indoor ski ramp next to
a monstrosity of design of a beached Container Ship exterior a joining a world class Giants seasonal Stadiium. How much of taxpayers and State and local political grants were wasted trying to save a blue skies destination ski mall concept. This stuff works in Asia not in NJ where REAL ski resorts at near northern NY& NJ mountain resorts are available and beaches draw the summer crowds away from Malls on marshes.
    Development

  2. Big black hole project to overpay crappy union labor on this white elephant – and the union hogs wonder where their pension funds are going?

  3. That is one ugly mess.

Malls are suffering. If it is ever finished it could just siphon off business from other malls

  4. Knock it down and bring back the marshes.
