Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan is urging Freeholder Chairman David Ganz to again reconsider the county’s pay-to-play ordinance, citing the recent indictment of a former Democratic Party chairman as grounds for tightening the current law.
But judging by their exchange of barbed remarks last week, a new negotiation over the limits on campaign contributions by the county’s no-bid contractors does not appear imminent.
Donovan, a Republican, began the exchange with a letter Wednesday in which she cited the recent indictment of Joseph Ferriero and “the negative light it once again shines on Bergen County and the Democrat Party as a whole.”
A federal grand jury indicted the former Democratic power broker Sept. 11 on allegations that he accepted bribes and kickbacks and extorted money from the former developer of the Meadowlands project once known as Xanadu.
