BET Founder: ‘This Country Would Never Tolerate White Unemployment at 14 or 15 Percent’

March 29, 2013
By Melanie Hunter

(CNSNews.com) – Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder Bob Johnson said Tuesday that the nation would “never tolerate white unemployment at 14 or 15 percent” and yet unemployment for the black community has been double that of white Americans for over 50 years.

“This country would never tolerate white unemployment at 14 and 15 percent. No one would ever stay in office at 14 or 15 percent unemployment in this nation, but we’ve had that double unemployment for over 50 years,” Johnson said while speaking at the National Press Club about the gap between whites and blacks in America.

“The national average is 7.7 percent, and African-American unemployment is 13.8 percent. To be honest, it’s probably greater than that when you count the number of African-Americans who have simply given up on finding employment,” said Johnson, who is also founder and chairman of The RLJ Companies.

In 1972, the unemployment rate for African-Americans was 11.2 percent in January of that year and as low as 9.4 percent in December of that same year. It dipped as low as seven percent in April 2000. The unemployment rate for blacks in February 2013 was 13.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Kristine Paige Photography

Kristine was born in Edison, New Jersey  and was the offspring of  a creative multicultural background.  She was artistically inclined from a very early age with some of her earliest memories are of sitting in her mother’s darkroom  and helping develop photographs

The transition of photography from film to digital is both an exciting and painful at the same time. Digital images ofter the end user and enormous opportunity in editorial and image manipulation and modern photography equipment allow and endless variety of ways to capture images . The down side is volume of poor quality images circulating and a reliance on technology when the user understands little about light and composition.

Kristine Page learned from the old school masters of photography first in film and then transferring and revolutionizing her craft in digital. The reality that Kristine grasped was that digital and film are in fact an entirely different mediums. Where film offered a
subtileness and texture akin to and analog recording , digital offers instant gratification and the opportunity to shot high quality images on the fly ,bringing to the corporate client high quality lifestyle photos . Kristine has managed to merge the perfect balance of the
artistic eye with a potent use of technology.

The field of Commercial Photography involves problem solving and great technical skill ,understanding manipulation of light and composition and capturing images that help your business come to life. Images sell and it is critical to have powerful images to reel in interest , make a statement  and assure credibility .

Kristine has worked with a litany of corporate clients  as well celebrities .Corporate clients include the International Nano 2012 Conference in  Rhodes Greece , the Raritian Bay Medical Center , .Middlesex Water Company , Vixen Village , DJ Times  and Philadelphia Weekly ,while Kristine has also worked with a whole host of celebrates from Lady Gaga , Grand Master Flash, LAMFO , Cindy Lauper , the Suger Hill Gang and many many more.

Key fair organizers were Bergen Community college’s Tracy Micelli and Bergen County’s Deputy Chief of Staff Peter Incardone.

Donovan greeted recruiters as well as job seekers alike . Its seems about time that politicians move away from focusing on silly laws like seat belts for dogs and concentrate on the seriousness of the employment picture in New Jersey , with is by all account a total disaster .

Signage may point to Ridgewood shops

The Ridgewood News

Inspired by a recent visit to Lambertville in central New Jersey, Paul Vagianos and other members of the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce pitched a public-private partnership to place new store signage at three key intersections in the Central Business District (CBD).

If the plan is approved by the Village Council, new signs will be installed along East Ridgewood Avenue at northeast corners of Broad, Chestnut and Oak streets.

Tom Hillmann, chamber president and owner of Hillmann Lighting, and Village Engineer Chris Rutishauser have already “scoped out” the area to determine the appropriate locations and heights of the new signs.

“We would be cleaning up the whole street sign look,” Hillman said.

Analysis: N.J. gas tax still taboo… and for good reason

Road_work_theridgewoodblog.net_1-300x225

Ridgewood PD guarding road construction

Editors note : the Record always omits the fact that the only one making out from an increased gas tax are unions . An increase in gas taxes is a direct payoff to unions looking to get reelected .Years of mismanagement of the High Way trust fund is not even acknowledged . The fact is the state does a terrible jobs allocating resources and spending money . residents have already payed for good roads and bridges , yet politicians since Jim Mac greevey have failed to deliver .In our town look at all the waste , a $9 million Village Hall renovation that was nothing less than a total fiasco as well as many $400,000 golden toilet projects ,it is a wonder anything get done …

Analysis: N.J. gas tax still taboo

The Record

New Jersey commuters should get used to idling in traffic, making sudden detours when a bridge fails an inspection and standing on overcrowded railcars.

That’s because the $1 billion state fund that pays for transportation upgrades is tapped out, able to pay only the debt it has accrued over the past decade and leaving a transportation system ranked among the worst in the country with little money for repairs and improvement. And there is no political will in Trenton, by Republicans or Democrats, to increase New Jersey’s 10.5-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax, which provides the main cash for the state Transportation Trust Fund.

With Governor Christie seeking a second term this year, and gearing up for a possible presidential run in 2016, he is unlikely to push to raise the gas tax. In fact, he’s repeatedly dismissed talk of increasing the tax, even when asked in the wake of superstorm Sandy if it could be a tool to help fund the state’s recovery.

And Democrats, who control the Legislature and have been critical of how Christie has handled transportation spending, have not put forward a plan to fix the state’s transportation problems. They too lack the political courage to push a tax hike, especially with all 120 seats in the Legislature on the November ballot this year.

New Obama administration tax adds 9 cents a gallon to your gas

EPA taking aim at auto emissions, sulfur in gas
By DINA CAPPIELLO | Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Reducing sulfur in gasoline and tightening emissions standards on cars beginning in 2017, as the Obama administration is proposing, would come with costs as well as rewards. The cost at the pump for cleaner air across the country could be less than a penny or as high as 9 cents a gallon, depending on who is providing the estimate.

An oil industry study says the proposed rule being unveiled Friday by the administration could increase gasoline prices by 6 cents to 9 cents a gallon. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates an increase of less than a penny and an additional $130 to the cost of a vehicle in 2025.

The study was conducted by Dallas-based carrier AT&T, which has been spearheading a campaign to end distracted driving.

The company surveyed more than 1,000 drivers and found that nearly half of all adults admit to texting on the road. This is compared to 43 percent of teens who confess to texting while driving.

After surging nearly 60 cents from late December to a $3.79 peak Feb. 27, prices have fallen for 25 of the past 29 days. Nationally, regular-grade gas now averages $3.65 a gallon — about 26 cents below year-ago levels. USA Today
