The Iron Lady ,Margaret Thatcher, Who Remade Britain, Dies at 87
By JOSEPH R. GREGORY
Published: April 8, 2013

Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady” of British politics, who pulled her country back from 35 years of socialism, led it to victory in the Falklands war and helped guide the United States and the Soviet Union through the cold war’s difficult last years, died Monday. She was 87.

“It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother, Baroness Thatcher, died peacefully following a stroke this morning,” a statement from her spokesman, Lord Tim Bell, said. She had been in poor health for months, and suffered from dementia.

Mrs. Thatcher was the first woman to become prime minister of Britain and the first to lead a major Western power in modern times. Hard-driving and hardheaded, she led her Conservative Party to three straight election victories and held office for 11 ½ years — May 1979 to November 1990 — longer than any other British politician in the 20th century.

Moxie Twins Salon
April 8 ,2014
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Many readers had not heard of the Moxie Twins Salon until the recent “episode” durring the taping of the Real Housewives of New Jersey . While we are not a fan of the show the owners of Ridgewood’s Moxie Twins Salon  have voiced concern that their reputation may have taken a hit during the taping an altercation .

While many readers felt it was nothing more than a publicity stunt others have such low expectations for the  D list celebs in reality TV series they have long looked with disdain and worry Ridgewood is becoming a magnet for these types of shows.

What ever your feeling we though we would introduce the Moxie Twins Salon and let you make up your own mind.

You don’t know style until you’ve met the “Moxie Twins”. Say hello to Jamie and Jenn, identical twin hairstylists who truly know how to get glam.

As teens, they simultaneously attended high school and trained using Paul Mitchell’s curriculum at the Parisian Beauty Academy, a Paul Mitchell partner school, in Hackensack, NJ. After graduation, while most others were just starting their hairstyling educations, Jenn and Jamie were already taking the country by storm. True “bicoastal stylists,” they beautified women (and men!) on both sides of the country, in both LA and NY. They took additional enrichment classes in New York City and trained with Guiseppe Franco, one of the TOP THREE HAIRDRESSERS IN THE WORLD. Throughout their careers, the girls have contributed to many charitable causes. They have appeared at several battered women’s shelters in New Jersey and offered haircuts free of charge, a glam pick-me-up for those who need it most. Additionally, they have assisted at St. Jude’s cut-a-thons, which raise money for childhood cancer research, and donated to the Joan’s Joy Foundation. They can often be found helping causes fundraise and donating services to auctions to help local schools and community centers.

Currently, the twins’ salon is located in Ridgewood, NJ. They offer professional haircuts, styling, and coloring, hair and eyelash extensions, and Motives make-up and custom blend foundation consultations. Both are La Bella hair and eyelash extension certified and Brazilian keratin treatment certified. In addition, Jenn is a Wella trained and certified colorist. Jamie is a Motives make-up custom blend foundation specialist.

Today, Jenn and Jamie are well-known throughout the tri-state area and beyond for their tremendous talent, vibrant energy, and unwavering zest for life. Their work speaks for itself. (https://www.moxietwins.com/about-us/ )

Readers question amount of police resources Valley will need with a much larger campus

Readers question amount of police resources Valley will need with a much larger campus

How much do they pay on the hospital campus again? ZERO.

A couple of cops in town have started telling stories about how Valley constantly needs police to manage traffic into and out of their campus when huge trucks come to deliver stuff. Think of how much more police manpower they’ll need for their 200 dump trucks a day for 10 years of construction. How much do they pay again on the hospital campus? ZERO.

Please Megan – stop with the lame press efforts to make it appear that Valley is doing anything but skating on a free ride.

Ridgewood braces for cicada invasion

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ . It only happens once every 17 years and according to the AP

Cicadas, those big, ugly, noisy bugs that climb out of the earth with cyclical regularity about every decade and a half and are about to pay us a visit .

Experts say that the bugs live underground and feed off fluid that gathers near the roots of plants, then emerge from the soil when its temperature reaches 64 degrees.

Cicadas are largely harmless, but their sheer numbers can cause headaches. Prediction are that Some areas could see as many as a billion bugs per square mile. Filling to a lot  roadways and grassy surfaces with dead bugs and they can also disrupt outdoor events with their loud buzzing.

WNYC a iNew York radio station is going to be tracking  the invasion.

New Online-Data Bill Sets Up Privacy Fight

Internet Firms Push Back on California Proposal Requiring They Disclose What Has Been Done With Users’ Information

By VAUHINI VARA And GEOFFREY A. FOWLER

Silicon Valley is fighting privacy advocates over a California bill, the first of its kind in the nation, that would require companies like Facebook Inc. FB +1.17% and Google Inc. GOOG -1.51% to disclose to users the personal data they have collected and with whom they have shared it.

The industry backlash is against the “Right to Know Act,” a bill introduced in February by Bonnie Lowenthal, a Democratic assemblywoman from Long Beach. It would make Internet companies, upon request, share with Californians personal information they have collected—including buying habits, physical location and sexual orientation—and what they have passed on to third parties such as marketing companies, app makers and other companies that collect and sell data.

The bill highlights how lawmakers are seeking to update privacy laws. An update of a 10-year-old law focused on the direct-marketing industry, the bill could have national impact because of California’s size, and it would bring the state’s privacy practices closer to those common in Europe.

Bergen sheriff proposes a quarter million less for 2013 budget

Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino

Bergen sheriff proposes a quarter million less for 2013 budget

The Record

Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino on Friday proposed a 2013 budget that is $250,000 less than last year’s.

The $59.9 million spending plan represents a 0.5 percent reduction, and most of that savings comes from replacing recent retirees with lower-paid officers, Saudino said.

“I gave a campaign promise that, if elected, I would cut spending as much as possible,” Saudino said after the hearing.

The Board of County Freeholders will have the final say on the budget for the Sheriff, who is responsible for the county jail and courthouse security, as well as other county agencies. The freeholder board is expected to adopt a budget in the coming weeks.

The Sheriff’s budget proposal, unveiled at a hearing Friday with the freeholders, comes after Bergen’s top administrator, County Executive Kathleen Donovan, proposed keeping the Sheriff’s budget level. And Saudino made it a point several times during the hearing Friday to remind freeholders that he had gone lower, underscoring an ongoing feud between the two.

Hundreds of children who are members of the Boys and Girls Club of America got more than they bargained for on Friday night after showing up to day two of WWE Fan Axxess at the Izod Center as WWE Superstars Brodus Clay and Tensai, among others, graced the stage to educate the youth on the dangers of bullying with an anti-bullying rally.

“Basically we’re here today for the ‘Be A Star’ anti-bullying program, which is anti-bullying acceptance,” said Clay.  “I think it’s important as [the kids] see us on TV every week that we go on and get back to real issues, real things that are important to kids today,” said Clay.

WWE Diva Naomi echoed her peers’ sentiments, noting that a sense of camaraderie helps those being bullied to deal with the issue at hand.

“[This program] helps bring awareness to bullying. It happens all the time and sometimes [the kids] are too scared [or] too nervous to say something,” said WWE Diva Naomi. She continued “It’s us as WWE Superstars and Divas to come here and be able to promote that and [show them] you know what it’s ok to stand up to one-another [and tell] a grown up.”

Mayor Bloomberg Tees Off, Hints Gov. Cuomo Partly To Blame For Albany Circus

Hizzoner Says Corruption Born From Desire To Rush Bills Through Legislature

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It was the ultimate putdown of state lawmakers caught in the corruption spotlight. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said they’re not qualified to get real jobs.

The circus has returned to Albany.

The man known in some parts as “El Bloombito” took out his rapier to cut state lawmakers down to size with a jab only a self-made billionaire could fire off, CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Friday.

“The average legislator who has to make policy on things that influence our lives, our kids’ lives, our future, would they ever get a job in the private sector making policy on big things? No, not a chance,” Bloomberg said.

4 gay NFL players could come out on the same day, Brendon Ayanbadejo says
By Andrew Sharp on Apr 5 2013, 10:25am

Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo was released by Baltimore this offseason, and on the heels of comments earlier this week where he suggested that he was cut in part because of his outspoken stance on gay rights and equality issues, Ayanbadejo clarified himself to the Baltimore Sun on Friday. During an hour-long interview he made it clear that he harbors no resentment toward the Ravens, and respects them for the support they offered him throughout his career both on and off the field. But that’s not all.
