Ridgewood Police and the DEA have scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
April 5,2013
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Ridgewood Police Department has again been selected as a collection site. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.
In the four previous Take-Back events, DEA in conjunction with our state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners have collected more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications were removed from circulation.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

The Valley Hospital Receives 10th Consecutive Inpatient Care Award from J.D. Power & Associates
April 4,2013
RIDGEWOOD, NJ, The Valley Hospital announced today that it has once again been honored for service excellence as part of J.D. Power & Associates Distinguished Hospital ProgramSM. For the tenth consecutive year, the hospital has been recognized for its strong commitment to providing “an outstanding inpatient experience.”
This distinction was determined by surveying discharged patients about their perceptions of their hospital visit and comparing those results to J.D. Power & Associates’ national benchmarks. Research among Valley patients focused on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction: speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.
The Valley Hospital consistently exceeds the national benchmark score for inpatient satisfaction. The hospital routinely receives high ratings for the care provided by doctors and nurses during inpatient stays. More than three-fourths (77 percent) of inpatients reported they feel loyal to the hospital, while 80 percent said they “definitely will” recommend The Valley Hospital to a friend, relative or colleague.
“We are committed to clinical quality and patient satisfaction,” said Audrey Meyers, president and CEO of The Valley Hospital. “These outstanding recognitions are a demonstration of the priority Valley staff and physicians place on achieving the highest-quality clinical outcomes, while delivering the most compassionate care.”

Overnight, Has The Valley Hospital Becomes Ridgewood’s Largest Taxpayer?
It is being widely reported that The Valley Hospital became Ridgewood’s largest taxpayer overnight as a result of their recent purchase of 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue from the Hartz Mountain Corporation.
The reported purchase price was $25 million; possibly 30% down, the rest to be financed.
The property in question last sold in 2004 for $25 million. It is currently assessed at $23 million.
Property taxes in 2012 were $558,935.94.
The multi-tenant office building, built in 1985, sits on just over 6 acres.
It is believed that The Valley has no plans for the property other than to continue leasing space out to physicians and other medical service providers.
Valley Rendering by Z. Putnins and C. Benson Reader Says dont drink the Valley kool-aid.
Renewal 2 is The same as renewal 1. The hospital has clearly not listened to the council and the residents. They still want a 94 ft tall building which will overshadow the whole neighborhood. They didn’t decrease the size of the north building by 1 foot. They also did not decrease the number of beds by even 1. Anyone who believes an increase of approximately 90% over the current size is a compromise has been drinking the Valley kool-aid.

The Record
RIDGEWOOD — The Posche II boutique’s grand opening was anything but posh when fists started flying at a “Real Housewives of New Jersey” event last weekend.
And now, village police have been fielding cross-complaints of assault and threats.
The bloody brawl erupted inside an East Ridgewood Avenue hair salon, which was not yet open, as television cameras rolled on Jacqueline and Christopher Laurita and Giuseppe “Joe” Gorga, who allegedly took on a Paramus man.
The fights have come to be expected at “Housewives” events — and Posche events in particular.

Details of The Valley Hospital’s new expansion proposal were unveiled and touted Tuesday night by the applicant’s experts as a significantly scaled-down version of the original Renewal plan, but many residents and some Planning Board members are already raising red flags.
Though more than half the seats inside the Benjamin Franklin Middle School (BF) auditorium were unoccupied, this week’s board meeting marked the beginning of what is expected to be a contentious public hearing. The hearing will continue Tuesday, April 16 at George Washington Middle School, a smaller venue than BF.
The hospital is requesting changes to the 2010 H-Zone amendment to the village master plan which would essentially permit a 910,000-square-foot expansion and facilities upgrade. All proposed improvements will take place on the 15-acre site that directly abuts three residential streets and BF at its northern border.

A shift in behavioral trends and the upward swing in student population and programming are contributing to difficult traffic conditions at Ridge School, which has been plagued recently with logistical and safety concerns during peak drop-off and dismissal hours.

Two rows of cars line up on West Ridgewood Avenue to enter the Ridge School circle on March 26, forcing passing vehicles to move into an oncoming traffic lane.
Parents have lodged complaints with village and school district officials, pleading for changes to improve the flow of traffic while creating a safe environment for motorists, particularly parents and other adults who park and line up along West Ridgewood Avenue to drop off and pick up students.
From the law enforcement perspective, police officers are often compelled to issue summonses to vehicle operators who violate street regulations, such as double parking and crossing the double yellow line and driving in the opposite lane of traffic.
State officials, with the help of local authorities, have been conducting a gun buyback campaign in several New Jersey cities, an effort to reduce gun-related crimes that they say was planned before the Newtown, CT, shooting. Since December, the state has spent $1.2 million on five buybacks. They’ve collected a record haul of more than 9,000 firearms, including rocket launchers, assault weapons, and submachine guns.
No one seems to dispute that it’s good idea to get those items off the street. But some question whether the effort is truly effective or worth the cost. (Kalet/NJSpotlight)
