Graydon Can Meet ADA Compliance with the Mobi Chair

Graydon should comply with ADA requirements like Crestwood Lake in Allendale has: They should purchase Mobi Chairs that allow handicapped individuals to enter the water and either get out and swim or remain in chair and float.

In this way Graydon retains its swimming room in the deep end without dimishing the already small space with a huge ramp that goes out 40 feet. Also the concrete entrance to ramp will replace the sand on the shore. which to many Graydon users, including myself, is unacceptable. We want a natural environment and a natural sand bottom pool.

The concrete patio is already an unnecessary eyesore and a diminishing of Graydon’s natural beauty and charm. Hey, I am used to bringing my lunch before patio was built. Much healthier. Mobi chairs are the way to go.

I suspect mobi chairs makes way too much sense for Ridgewood to implement probably because it does not advance the correct agenda or line the correct pockets.

Report: DOJ Seized Records of Five Fox News Phone Numbers

Report: DOJ Seized Records of Five Fox News Phone Numbers
Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker:

The Obama Justice Department has seized the phone records of numbers that are associated with White House staffers and, apparently, with Fox News reporters, according to a document filed on October 13, 2011, in the case of Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, a former State Department contractor accused of violating the Espionage Act for allegedly leaking classified information to James Rosen, a Fox News reporter. Ronald C. Machen, Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, who is prosecuting the case, has seized records associated with two phone numbers at the White House, at least five numbers associated with Fox News, and one that has the same area code and exchange as Rosen’s personal-cell-phone number (the last four numbers are redacted).

Ridgewood schools to leave national lunch program

The Ridgewood News

Aiming to bring in more bacon, the Ridgewood school district is leaving the national lunch program next term and will seek input on new menus. The district is also exploring ways to make the Infant/Toddler Development Center (ITDC) at Glen School, which is losing money, more lucrative.

A discussion led by Assistant Superintendent for Business Angelo DeSimone about these services took place at last week’s Board of Education (BOE) meeting, which also included a financial update on the Ridgewood Community School.

According to DeSimone, the cafeteria has made revenue gains this year – “about 16 cents on the dollar” in income. Meanwhile, the Ridgewood Community School is yielding a 4 percent profit this quarter, but the ITDC is losing money – 30 cents on the dollar, although that is less money than earlier this year, he said.

“The trend is good, but I don’t think it’s trending fast enough to bring us down to zero,” DeSimone said.

While educators throughout the state strain to interpret New Jersey’s strict anti-bullying law, a judge has found that an eighth-grade Ridgewood boy violated the rules by calling a fellow student a “horse” and “fat.”

“A reasonable person should know that repeatedly calling a teenage girl ‘fat’ … would have the effect of harming her,” Jeffrey A. Gerson, an administrative law judge in Newark, wrote in the decision, rejecting the boy’s contention that he never intended to harass her. The judge also found that the district’s imposition of two after-school detentions was a fair punishment for a student with no history as a trouble maker.

Gerson noted that the boy had admitted using the word “horse” as a nickname but denied calling the girl overweight.

Ridgewood pool ramp debate heats up

RIDGEWOOD — Construction of a controversial ramp at Graydon Pool remains delayed while state environmental officials evaluate its impact on the historic nature of the pool.

While some residents argue that the village is morally obligated to build a ramp, others fear the concrete structure will alter the character of the 1920s-era pool.

Several residents again reiterated those arguments at a special meeting this week called by the state Department of Environmental Protection as part of the Historic Preservation Office’s review of the project.

The ramp at Graydon Pool was approved by the Village Council late last year, after more than two years of debate.

The project was supposed to be finished by summer but now, officials anticipate work won’t begin until fall.

The 40-foot ramp is required to bring the 2.6-acre pool, which has a sand bottom, into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Ridgewood NJ, A tractor trailer making a U-Turn in the Graydon North parking lot on Tuesday evening struck a low hanging wire, which set off a chain reaction series of events culminating in the loss of electric, phone, and WIFI  services to the Graydon Pool complex.

Ridgewood PD and FD units responded quickly to the incident and roped off the affected area due to the presence of live electric wires on the ground.  A PSE&G lineman arrived within 30 minutes to disconnect the downed power line from the electric grid.

A representative from the Village’s Signal Maintenance division was also observed evaluating damage.  No estimate was given as to when services would be restored.  No injuries were reported, nor was there any apparent damage to the tractor trailer.  There was no report of a summons being issued to the tractor’s driver.

Many high school athletes view running as punishment. What happens when you mess up in practice? You do laps. So when Catherine Pagano tries to explains to her friends how much she loves running, she gets weird looks.

“They don’t understand it because they think you’re just out there running in circles,” Pagano said.

“But I really like running, because it’s kind of an escape.”

Pagano isn’t just escaping from the rigors of her busy schedule at Ridgewood.

She’s running away from the competition. Pagano won the Division A 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the Bergen County Track and Field Championships last week, earning her The Record Female Athlete of the Week honor.
