Ridgewood NJ, the University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team received a well-deserved recognition with a plethora of players earning All-Landmark Conference Lacrosse honors, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. Among the standout performers, freshman Myles McCutcheon, 2023 Ridgewood High School alumni emerged as the Rookie of the Year, highlighting the team’s exceptional talent and promising future.
In addition to McCutcheon’s impressive accolade, a total of seven players were honored with All-Landmark selections. Graduate student Colin Pierce, hailing from Chatham, N.J., secured the Defensive Player of the Year title, underscoring his invaluable contribution to the team’s success. Senior attacker Matthew McAree from Manhasset, N.Y., and senior midfielder Alex Eglitis from Randolph, N.J., were both recognized with First Team honors, showcasing their outstanding skills and leadership on the field.
Furthermore, senior midfielder Joe Boyle from Huntington, N.Y., and senior long stick midfielder Andrew Lord from Havertown, Pa., earned well-deserved spots on the Second Team, demonstrating their versatility and defensive prowess. Additionally, junior defender Zachariah Palinkas from Emmaus, Pa., and senior short stick midfielder Kyle Bennett from Havertown, Pa., received Honorable Mention recognition for their contributions to the team’s success throughout the season.
McCutcheon’s stellar performance throughout the season solidified his position as a key player for the team. With 17 games played and 16 starts under his belt, the Ridgewood native showcased his scoring prowess by tallying an impressive 36 goals, ranking third on the team. His remarkable consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments underscored his deserving selection as the Rookie of the Year.
McCutcheon’s impact on the field was evident, particularly during critical stretches of the season where he showcased his scoring ability with remarkable performances, including three consecutive games with five goals each from Mar. 23 to Apr. 3. His emergence as a standout freshman player bodes well for the future of the University of Scranton men’s lacrosse program, promising exciting seasons ahead.
