UPDATE: 4-year-old Child Drowned Friday Evening at a Home in Woodcliff Lake

Woodcliff Lake NJ, according to investigators a 4-year-old child drowned Friday evening at a home in Woodcliff Lake.

Woodcliff Lake Police were called to the Heidi Lane home just after 5 p.m. after someone called 911 to report a possible drowning, according to a statement from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

The child was taken to The Valley Hospital and was later pronounced dead, the office said. No other information was released late Friday night as the incident remained under investigation.

The mayor and council released the following statement on Facebook:

It is a sad day today in Woodcliff Lake as we grieve for the passing of a young resident who drowned in his backyard pool. Our deepest condolences to the family. Our entire community offers comfort and support. As the family grieves, please respect their privacy.
We thank our heroic police officers, Tri-Boro volunteer ambulance personnel, ALS Services, and the fire department who tried to revive the young boy.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information:

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department are investigating an apparent drowning death that occurred at a private residence on Heidi Lane in Woodcliff Lake on Friday, July 21, 2023. At approximately 5:05 p.m., the Woodcliff Lake Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a possible drowning of a four-year-old child. The child was transported to Valley Hospital and ultimately pronounced deceased.

An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Deputy Chief Steven Regula. No other information is available at this time.
