  1. Sweet!

But we elderly and I mean elderly who shovel out themselves with a snow SHOVEL would appreciate it if after the street plowers push a mountain of icy hard snow into the apron of our driveways we would appreciate some help from the town digging out of the apron of our driveway the next day after the storm.

Once in my forty years of living here, a town employee in a truck saw me digging out and used the plow on his truck to help me. It too him two minutes and saved me a tremendous labor of backbreaking work.

  2. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could sign up for some help in the aftermath? Ridgewood, want to be senior friendly? That would be a terrific service to sign up for. At age 71 I spent nearly two hours this afternoon (Thurs.) shoveling just the Great Wall of Snow from the lip of my driveway. My snowplow guy did his work yesterday and last night the entire thing was crammed with a high glomp of snow from passing snow plows. They could easily have pushed it to the opposite side since there is no driveway directly across the street. Either they don’t notice or they enjoy doing it. This afternoon it started to melt so I was able to do it. For the largest lumps I pretended I was on the Olympics curling team. But that doesn’t mean it was fun or that my back doesn’t hurt.

  3. Why should the town have to provide clean up service on private property? You choose to live in the Northeast then make arrangements to have your driveway cleared in a storm. That’s what I do.

  4. 8.13 & 10.25. Don’t waste your time complaining here. There is a bunch of cheerleaders here who will mock you for complaining about such a “minor” thing and who think that DPW is the best thing since sliced bread.

  5. They do a great job of clearing the streets. They don’t do a good job of clearing driveways because that’s not their job.

  6. 11.13 . What the hell are you smoking? How is it right for them to create walls of snow in front of people driveways. Nobody is asking DPW to clear the driveways. Obviously you have never been in this situation.

  7. Geez…. 813 and 1025, no neighbors offered to help? That’s terrible.

  8. I may be wrong but I think the apron of my driveway is my property; not the town’s. So I’m in that situation whenever there’s a heavy snowstorm 1:13. If there’s a foot or more of snow, I fully expect the end of my driveway to be blocked when the plow comes through. I plan for it by hiring people to clear my driveway when necessary.
