Mahwah NJ, The wait is finally over for Bergen County foodies. After a devastating kitchen fire sidelined the local favorite last October, Novino Ristorante has officially opened its doors on Route 202 in Mahwah.
While the interior boasts a stunning, top-to-bottom renovation, the owners are making one thing very clear: the community-first spirit (and those famous prices) haven’t changed a bit.
A Fresh Look for a Neighborhood Staple
Owners George and Renee Jamieson welcomed the community back this week, debuting a fully transformed space. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of October 2, necessitated a “total renovation of the interior.”
The result? A polished, inviting atmosphere that remains the perfect BYOB destination. The restaurant’s name, a tribute to Renee’s maternal grandmother, continues to represent the family-oriented values the Jamiesons have championed since day one.
The $13.99 Legend Lives On
In an era of skyrocketing food costs, George Jamieson is taking a stand for the “affordable meal.” While many North Jersey spots have pushed large pies toward the $20 mark, Novino is sticking to its roots.
“We kept the $13.99 pizza to go,” Jamieson said. “I grew up on pizza being the affordable meal.”
What’s on the Menu?
Fans of the original Novino will be relieved to find the menu just as extensive as they remember, with a few new surprises. You can expect:
-
Wood-Fired Pizzas: The gold standard for Mahwah pizza lovers.
-
Italian Classics: Signature dishes like Shrimp Scampi and hearty Pasta with “Sunday Gravy.”
-
Full Service & Catering: From intimate dinners to large-scale events (they’ve already hit the ground running with a 180-person catering order just days after opening!).
Resilience and Community Support
The road to reopening wasn’t walked alone. Following the fire, the Jamiesons launched a GoFundMe that raised over $12,000 to support their staff—many of whom are sole providers for their families—during the hiatus.
The local gratitude is mutual. The Mahwah Fire Department (Company 1) recently highlighted the restaurant’s generosity, noting that Novino provided dinner for their monthly meeting immediately upon returning.
“Their resilience and determination to rebuild and reopen demonstrates the strength of our local business community,” the department shared on social media.
