A severe overnight storm left a Wyckoff family dealing with structural damage after a massive tree splintered and crashed directly onto their home, triggering an emergency midnight response.

Volunteer firefighters rushed to Patton Place during the height of the storm following urgent reports of a fallen tree. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that the top half of a large tree had snapped, landing squarely on the roof of a residential property.

Water Penetrates Home, Threatening Electrical Systems

The impact punctured the roof line, creating a vulnerability that allowed heavy rainwater to quickly penetrate the home’s interior. According to the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department, the incoming water rapidly began affecting the home’s ceilings and indoor light fixtures, creating an immediate electrical hazard.

Fire crews moved swiftly to mitigate the danger by taking the following actions:

  • Securing the Utilities: Firefighters immediately cut and secured the home’s electricity to eliminate the risk of a structural fire or shock hazard from the water-logged light fixtures.

  • Salvage Operations: Crews initiated salvage operations inside the home to protect the residents’ personal property and minimize further interior water damage.

While the storm caused significant property disruption, no injuries were reported at the scene thanks to the prompt response of the local volunteer crews.
