East Rutherford NJ, An early morning dispute in Bergen County escalated into a full-scale SWAT deployment after a local landlord allegedly stabbed his tenant and barricaded himself inside his apartment using a mobility device.

The incident, which took place in East Rutherford, New Jersey, drew a massive law enforcement response on Wednesday, July 1.

Midnight Dispute Leads to Bloodshed on Humboldt Street

According to East Rutherford Police Captain Jeff Yannacone, officers rushed to a residential property at 85 Humboldt Street at approximately 2:20 a.m. following reports of a heated argument and a possible stabbing.

Upon arrival, first responders located a tenant suffering from a visible puncture wound to his side. The victim informed officers that his landlord, identified as Albert Damore, had stabbed him during a sudden confrontation. Officers administered immediate first aid at the scene before emergency medical services (EMS) rushed the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

The Standby: Scooter Used as a Barricade

When police attempted to make contact with the suspect, Damore refused to cooperate or speak with law enforcement. In a bizarre turn of events, the landlord utilized his personal medical scooter to heavily block the front entrance of his apartment, effectively preventing officers from entering the unit to secure the scene.

Recognizing the barricade situation and potential weapon threat, an on-scene police sergeant immediately requested emergency backup from the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team.

SWAT Breaches Apartment, Suspect Apprehended

SWAT operators quickly arrived at the Humboldt Street residence, establishing a perimeter before breaching the apartment door. Damore was successfully taken into custody without further incident.

Following a routine medical evaluation at Hackensack University Medical Center, Damore was transported directly to the Bergen County Jail. Authorities have officially charged him with:

  • Aggravated Assault

  • Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
