High-Angle Rescue: Montvale Firefighters and Air Medical Team Save Injured Worker After Roof Fall

MONTVALE, N.J. — A complex emergency rescue unfolded in Montvale on Thursday, August 13, after a construction worker fell from a commercial roof onto the roof of an adjacent building.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., the Montvale Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the commercial property following reports of the workplace incident. Upon arrival, first responders found the injured worker trapped on the neighboring roof, requiring specialized technical rescue equipment to safely extricate the patient.
Multi-Agency Rescue Operations
With support from the Park Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, fire crews executed a high-angle rescue operation. Responders immobilized the patient in a specialized stokes basket and utilized Montvale’s Tower Ladder M5 to carefully lower the worker to ground level.
Once on the ground, emergency medical personnel from the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Valley Hospital Advanced Life Support (ALS) provided immediate stabilization and medical care.
Airlifted to Medical Center
Due to the nature of the injuries, an emergency air medical transport was requested.
The patient was transferred from the ambulance to a waiting Hackensack UMC AirMed helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center. The Woodcliff Lake Fire Department established and secured the emergency landing zone to ensure a safe helicopter departure.
The identity and current condition of the worker have not yet been released, and the incident remains under review.
