Ridgewood Resident Accused of Running and AirBnb Responds

Cat on Porch Ridgewood

To whomever posted -Anonymous January 12, 2017 at 8:05 pm- that put my AirBNB listing up with my address-which incidentally is kept totally confidential until AFTER the guest passes a 5-point security check. But Thank You for noticing that I am a hard-working professional who is willing to share her beautiful home with others. As an immigrant to this country, I founded a national association to help women. I help them achieve their national credential in order to find jobs, and get better ones, then I help them continue their education with one-on-one mentoring (some of the cars that are “in and out of there all the time”.)…so I guess I just like helping people. My guests park on my property and I have had no complaints from neighbors. AirBnb has helped me pay for taxes, repairs on my home, upgrade plumbing etc., so that the value is maintained. And who are the guests that stay with me? I have three different grandparents that come to visit their grandchildren, nurses that work long shifts at Valley Hospital, a son who lives in California that comes regularly to visit his mother in a nursing home, a self-employed marketing consultant who comes here for business, and then I have had two different couples who have stayed here while they bought a home in the area-they wanted to see what it was like living in Ridgewood–without this experience, they may not have chosen to live here! The sharing economy is an international model that can be found in small cities all over the world that only enhances the diversity and value of the community.

  1. Did you pay federal and nj state income tax on your earnings?

  2. Airbnb is not a bad idea. The sharing economy. How many of us use Uber?

When I saw the link I guessed it was just a petty neighbor. One who watches out the window a bit to much. Let him identify himself. He posted a link to her home so now tell us where he lives. Tell us how her intermittent small business ruined his sad life.

The link to private property should be removed.

  3. None of your business 8:22. And if you read the posting properly you would have noted that her income is used to pay taxes. You obliviously have no idea how ABB works and can only comment in a negative fashion to get your small minded opinion across. The sharing economy is here to stay and you better get on board otherwise you will be left behind like the rest of the dinosaurs. The above posting by this host is exactly what goes on at a property…respectable people using today’s technology to everyone’s advantage. Get with the program…

  4. Lots of people staying in people’s homes are nice. All we need is one baddie. This is a good ordinance.

  5. I will never use Uber. Miserable company and it’s being reported in Europe that they are suffering financially.

  6. 2:24 You are clearly uneducated. Her income is used to pay her property taxes. But the question someone posed was :Does she pay income tax on her income.? Do you actually understand that there is a difference.

  7. 8:22 The sharing economy is not here to stay in Ridgewood. As of Wednesday Air BNB and any other short-term rentals is officially illegal with fines of $1000 a day. Respectable people using today’s technology to everyone’s advantage? I don’t think so. I think it is someone flying under the radar, sneaking people in, taking income that is not reported to the IRS. Not so respectable.

  8. 5:57 you clearly CANNOT READ.
5:59 what the hell are you talking about?
So Ridgewood is exempt from the march into the future with the rest of the world? How do you know it’s not reported income? Someone posting their home on Air is ” sneaking”? Your a complete dinosaur as is reflected in your post …you can’t even get the time line right.

  9. 6:22, Have another drink.

  10. Anonymous January 14, 2017 at 8:22 am, Anonymous January 14, 2017 at 5:59 pm. Dear Anonymous, The fact that you don’t even post your name is clearly a statement in and of itself. Airbnb earnings, like Uber, or Lyft or any of the new sharing economy models are taxable. Get educated please, as our future Ridgewood residents reading this blog will most certainly be apprehensive to consider moving here.

  11. Susanne…they’re losers… join the facebook page instead…

  12. PESMITH……the only losers will be those who continue to operate a bed and breakfast in town now that it is no longer legal. Hopefully Suznnee Warfield will not be among them. What she was doing was not illegal. But it is now.

  13. The only thing true about this model is that all cities are cracking down on it.

    https://money.cnn.com/2016/10/21/technology/airbnb-new-york/

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that makes it illegal for people to list entire apartments on Airbnb and similar sites for periods of less than 30 days.
