Midland Park, NJ – In the line of duty, police officers often face high-pressure situations, but few moments are as rewarding as seeing a life saved come full circle. Recently, the Midland Park Police Department welcomed a very special visitor: Aidan, a local teenager who stopped by to personally thank the officers who saved his life just a few months ago.

The Emergency Call That Changed Everything

The story began on the evening of November 29, 2025. Officers Mark Berninger and Matthew Shea were dispatched to a Midland Park residence following a 911 call regarding a 15-year-old male in the midst of a severe medical emergency.

Upon arrival, the scene was critical. They found Aidan unconscious and not breathing. Without a second of hesitation, Ptlm. Berninger and Ptlm. Shea jumped into action, performing emergency CPR and life-saving measures to stabilize him.

A Community Effort

The success of the rescue was a testament to the seamless coordination between Midland Park’s first responders:

  • Midland Park Police: Initial life-saving stabilization and CPR.

  • Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corp: Rapid response and transport support.

  • Valley Hospital Medics: Advanced life support on-scene.

The Road to Recovery

After the initial incident, Aidan was transported to Valley Hospital before being transferred to a specialized facility in New York City. Following weeks of intensive medical care and a display of incredible resilience, Aidan made a full recovery.

His recent visit to the station wasn’t just a “thank you”—it was a celebration of life. The Midland Park Police Department expressed their pride in Aidan’s strength, stating:

“Aidan, we are grateful for your amazing recovery and we wish you nothing but the best in all of your future goals and dreams. Thanks for stopping by, and don’t be a stranger!”
