FAIR LAWN, NJ — What is the secret to living a long, happy, and healthy life? If you ask Bergen County local and World War II veteran Charlie Wolf, the answer is delightfully simple—and it might already be in your kitchen.

Last month, Wolf celebrated his incredible 102nd birthday surrounded by community leaders and family. As a Fair Lawn resident since 1969, he remains an active and beloved pillar of the community, proving that age truly is just a number.

The 102-Year-Old Longevity Formula: Tea, Treats, and Activity

When asked what has kept him going strong for more than a century, Wolf pointed to a few modest daily habits. His secret formula for longevity includes:

  • Tea with Honey: A warm, comforting daily ritual packed with natural antioxidants and soothing properties.

  • Animal Crackers: A nostalgic, simple sweet treat that proves you never have to fully grow up.

  • Staying Mentally and Physically Active: Keeping his mind sharp and his body moving.

His modern habits back up his dedication to staying active. U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer, who recently visited Wolf to celebrate his milestone birthday, shared that even at 102, Wolf is still reading his daily news on an iPad, always smiling, and greeting everyone with a warm energy.

A Lifetime of Service: From WWII Medical Wards to North Jersey

Born in Montreal and raised in New York, Wolf’s journey of service began during World War II. He served for three years as a nursing assistant in the U.S. Army, stationed first at the 54th General Hospital in New Guinea before being transferred to Tokyo as the war drew to a close.

In a touching tribute to his service, Wolf officially received his military medals in 2016—exactly 70 years after his discharge—during a surprise ceremony at historic Pearl Harbor.

Following the war, Wolf returned to civilian life to run a successful small business and was happily married to his late wife, Ellen, for 53 years. Today, his legacy lives on through his daughter, two grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

A Pillar of the Fair Lawn Community

Wolf’s commitment to staying active didn’t stop after retirement. For decades, he has been a frequent face at the Fair Lawn Senior Center. Proving his knack for technology was nothing new, he even spent the early 2000s teaching computer literacy classes to fellow seniors at the Kaplan JCC on the Palisades.

“Our seniors are the heart and soul of North Jersey, and Charlie Wolf is the heart of Fair Lawn,” Rep. Gottheimer said. “Charlie Wolf is exactly who we should all aspire to be.”

As Charlie looks ahead to his next chapter, his simple advice reminds us all that longevity isn’t just about the years in your life, but the life, laughter—and animal crackers—in your years.

  1. Gottheimer, kind of like Tedesco, can’t help but mug for the cameras. Has he ever accomplished anything?
