Paramus NJ, Acting Prosecutor Dennis Calo announces the following information:
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Paramus Police Department are investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred early this morning, September 23, 2018.
At approximately 2:40 a.m., the Paramus Police Department responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 4 West between Forest Avenue and Spring Valley Road. Initial reports indicate that Vladimir Diaz was operating a 2006 Jeep Cherokee in the center lane when he was struck from behind by a 2011 Audi A4 driven by Herbert Reynoso (DOB: 09/07/94). As a result of the impact, Mr. Diaz’s car struck a utility pole. He was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition. Reynoso’s vehicle continued approximately 800 feet, then struck a utility pole and overturned. Reynoso was treated and released from HUMC.
Herbert Reynoso (DOB: 09/07/94) of 12-10 Lexington Street, Fair Lawn, NJ, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)1, a second-degree crime, Assault by Automobile, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(c), a third-degree crime, as well as the motor vehicle offenses of Driving While Intoxicated, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, and Reckless Driving, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-96. He is being held in the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court on Monday, September 24, 2018.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later time.
