Mahwah NJ, on Tuesday 5/5/2020 all 5 Mahwah Fire stations were dispatched to a fire in Co 1 district on Alcott road. Engine 117 and Ladder 2 each stretched lines for an interior attack while Ladder 4 and suffern 19-99 vented the roof. Multiple mutual aid units were brought in to check for extension and to remove the burning contents from the home. No injuries were reported and all units were released roughly 2 hours after dispatch. Mutual aid departments were on scene or in the Mahwah firehouses covering additional calls.

  1. And what is amazing is how big The town of Mahwah is the rule volunteers. We find that very interesting. They have a lot of condos townhouses industrial areas more than a village. We have a bunch of great guys on the fire department . But all kidding aside the other second largest budget throughout the village. I just don’t see the village affording a paid fire department down the road this is not the 50s .anymore. EMTs yes they’re going to have to get a lot of money from federal aid to support us. How does Paramus do it. How does fair lawn do it. They are just as big and I have more to worry about. If it wasn’t for the politicians behind the fire department they would be doomed. I don’t come back with some bullshit story

  2. My neighbors and I want a paid professional fire department. If you do t want to pay for professional firefighters that’s fine, move to a town with an all volunteer fire department. Stop being like a communist dictator and telling me and my neighbors what we need and so t need. Hope you find a nice home in another town.

  3. You know nothing about what your neighbors want.
You like to think your a great firefighter.
We don’t need any more saved basements.
I have fire insurance for a reason.
Paying you to sit on glen avenue making gravy is not my idea of prudent tax dollar usage. And then paying you in retirement to do the same thing is thankfully coming to an end. Start looking boys…parties over.

  4. I’m only saving $200 on my fire insurance on my home because we have a big party party. Do I love to pay the EMTs oh yes. Do I love the fart apartment yes great people. But very expensive. What I rather pay the money for the fire department versus the Board of Education oh yes Ridgewood high school is overrated. Give me the money request for school per-pupil the high school and I’ll send my kid to a private school oh yes.

  5. You don’t even live in Ridgewood. Your not even living in the country. You are one of those morons from the Aronshon Financial Advisory Committee that was laughed out of town. No one cares what you say or want. Your reputation as a retirement fund manager was so bad you had to leave the country to find employment. Your a thief and every one knows it.

  6. Police and Firefighters will not see their pensions and benefits diminish when the state goes bankrupt. As of 2018 New Jersey can no longer use (steal) our pension money since they are no longer in control of our Pension.
New pension law giving control to N.J. firefighters and police scorned by Wall Street
Murphy, a Democrat, signed the law on July 3, 2018 allowing the pension system for police and firefighters to split from the broader pension system for teachers and other state workers.
The unions have long desired control over their pension fund, which they say the state has mismanaged.
The police and firefighter unions had feared lawmakers might someday pool assets to shore up those ailing funds and have disagreed with the state’s investment strategy, namely its push into high-cost hedge funds.
The portion funded by counties and municipalities, which are required to make full contributions annually, is 73.1 percent funded, according to the state’s statutory funding data. The smaller portion funded by the state, which has skipped or shorted contributions for more than two decades, is 41.8 percent funded.

……..So go ahead and keep hoping the state goes bankrupt Charlie Slime. I will not care if it does.

  7. A paid fire department is an unbelievably expense anachronism in this age of more fire regardant building materials.

Volunteer fire departments are the way forward, not our two active fire houses staffed full-time by paid professionals on East & West Glen.

    It’s taxpayer theft.

Number 1: How could you possibly know who I am and what my neighbors think?

Number 2: I am NOT a firefighter, never have been and never will be.

You apparently jumped to a conclusion you can’t defend or explain. Sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder.

  9. Hey Jimbo give it a rest, everyone knows who you are and that you a disgraced former firefighter who cost the Village millions. Volunteer is the way forward.

  10. I guess the money will grow on trees. Good luck fully funding your Ponzi scheme. When you draw your full pension from an average retirement age of 52 for more years (32 years based on average lifespan) than you actually served (25 years), that’s a Ponzi scheme. The math doesn’t work, especially as there are more retirees coming than active employee contributors. Besides, Ridgewood doesn’t need two fire houses fully staffed 24/7 by paid professionals. Engine 31 at 311 West Glen should be 100% volunteer but your union is scamming the Village. It’s an anachronism from the 1940s when horses couldn’t get up the hill fast enough. Today’s equipment doesn’t have that problem, which means you and your union have been scamming Village taxpayers for decades in bad faith. A paid fire department is also a luxury, not a state or municipal mandate. Volunteer is the future.

  11. Hey Mr. Slime, give it a rest. Every one here knows you are a pathetic pathological liar 🤥 who does not even live in the United States. Your reputation is so bad you couldn’t find work in America so you had to go to the United Arab Emirates to find a job.

  12. I am still waiting for an answer to my previous post……what’s wrong? could it be that you can’t explain yourself.

Wow, you couldn’t be more wrong. You have no idea what your talking about Slime

Struggling all-volunteer fire department will spend $800K to hire full-timers.

After over 200 years of being an all-volunteer department, Princeton will be hiring career firefighters for the first time this year. Princeton will hire six full-time firefighters total. The positions will be offered to the department’s current volunteers first. If current members are uninterested in becoming full time or do not meet the job criteria the township will look for members outside of the current department, according to Township Administrator Marc Dashield.

Why are volunteer-based fire departments going up in smoke?

To Bill Pederson, it’s not just a ruin. It’s a monument to bad firefighting. Last week he walked past a neighbor’s house that was destroyed by fire a year ago. The Eagan Fire Department took 18 minutes to get a stream of water on the fire, partly because of a shortage of volunteer firefighters.
“It’s an embarrassment,” said Pederson, who is planning a one-year commemoration of the fire April 23. “A volunteer fire department is an outdated model in this day and age.” Eagan Fire Chief Mike Scott said the response to that fire was too slow and was a consequence of the manpower shortage. “In volunteer fire departments,” said Scott, “the one driving force is that you need volunteers.”

    https://www.twincities.com/2016/04/15/why-are-volunteer-based-fire-departments-going-up-in-smoke/

After decades of surviving every type of emergency, volunteer fire departments are facing a new hazard — a lack of volunteers. The state fire marshal’s office says Eagan is among the 94 percent of metro-area cities that are partially dependent on volunteers, and the shortage is slowing response times and increasing costs.

  14. New NFPA Report Finds Significant Decline in Volunteer Firefighter Numbers

    April 16, 2019

Last month, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) published its 2017 U.S. Fire Department Profile report. The report, which is based on data collected via a national survey of fire departments, estimated that there were 682,600 volunteer firefighters in the United States in 2017. That is down significantly from the 814,850 and 729,000 volunteer firefighters that the NFPA estimates were active in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

The volunteer firefighter numbers for 2016 and 2017 are the lowest recorded levels since the NFPA began the survey in 1983. There was no NFPA U.S. Fire Department Profile report released in 2016, and the 2017 report is the first time that the data for 2016 or 2017 has been made available.

  15. Hunterdon fire chiefs urge paid daytime firefighters.

RARITAN TOWNSHIP – Volunteer fire companies have always been a part of the fabric of rural life. At the sound of a siren the volunteers, at home or at work, would drop whatever they were doing and come to the aid of a neighbor 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

But as the economy, demographics and the state have changed, volunteer fire departments throughout New Jersey, like rescue squads, are facing a crisis — the lack of volunteers available to answer daytime calls. That’s why the Hunterdon Fire Chiefs Association is proposing that the county have paid firefighters during the day.

The need for daytime coverage is so urgent that Freeholder Robert Walton, a member of the chiefs association with a reputation for being a strict fiscal conservative, is bringing that message to all of the county’s municipalities.

  16. A paid fire department is also a luxury, not a state or municipal mandate. Volunteer is the future.

    🤣😂😆 ROFLMAO

Clearly whoever said this doesn’t know what they are talking about.

  17. Jimmy B must have had a few too many down in Margaritaville… that’s his MO to post long stupid blurbs to muddy the waters. Volunteer is the future. Not two 24/7 firehouses about a mile apart staffed by paid professionals. Engine 31 at 311 West Glen should be 100% volunteer!!!

  18. Chuckie Slime just loves to ignore facts and documents. He thinks he has been anointed to decide what Ridgewood needs and doesn’t need even though he doesn’t live in Ridgewood anymore. He even had to leave the USA to find work because his reputation in his chosen profession is so bad not one company in the United States would hire his lying ass. Sad he has nothing better to do with his life living thousands of miles away in the United Arab Emirates posting on this blog. What a looser.
