East Rutherford NJ, the American Dream mall faced an unexpected evacuation early Tuesday evening after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in the parking garage, according to authorities.
Around 5:30 p.m., mall security noticed a Tesla parked on the ground level of the C parking deck with its driver’s side door left open and unattended. The vehicle’s unusual state raised concerns, prompting immediate action. Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron of the New Jersey State Police stated that after a K-9 sweep, the dog alerted the team, signaling potential danger.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the American Dream was evacuated,” Lebron explained.
Additional sweeps were performed by both the Bergen County and New Jersey State Police K-9 units, with both also receiving positive alerts.
The New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit and Bergen County Bomb Unit were swiftly called in. After a thorough inspection, they cleared the vehicle and confirmed that no devices or threats were present.
Once the situation was resolved, the mall reopened to employees and shoppers. The quick response from authorities ensured everyone’s safety while minimizing disruption.
