Ridgewood NJ, on April 14, 2024, at 6 a.m., plastic sheets will be placed over the signs guiding individuals to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, signifying the closure of its emergency room after 73 years of service.

Simultaneously, 2 miles away in Paramus, the new Valley Hospital will unveil its emergency room, fully staffed with doctors, nurses, and other professionals prepared for immediate service.

An hour later, a convoy of 65 ambulances will commence the transfer of patients from the old Ridgewood site to Valley’s newly constructed $868 million facility. Notably, one of the distinctive features of the new facility is the provision of a single room for every patient.

“As we prepare to move to The Valley Hospital in Paramus on April 14, 2024, I want to share my excitement for this once-in-a-lifetime project,” wrote Charles Vannoy, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at The Valley Hospital. “Building our hospital has been years in the making, and seeing it come to life has been remarkable. Today, I am excited to share just a few of the things I am most excited about in our new space.”

Vannoy goes on , “First and foremost, every patient room in the new hospital is a single room, offering patients a private healing environment and staff more opportunity to form personal connections with each of their patients. ”

“In addition, each patient room in our new hospital will have a designated space for families, friends, and guests which includes a couch and a table. At Valley, we provide patient- and family-centered care, so creating a space where our families and guests can reside was of utmost importance to us. The designated space will allow loved ones better opportunities to collaborate with our clinical teams to ensure great outcomes for our patients.”

“Our new nurses’ stations are beautifully designed and will provide a welcoming space for staff to collaborate and families to inquire. Each nursing unit will have two nurses’ stations, which serve as central hubs for the units and will be equipped with a Teams Room to allow for staff meetings in a central location.”

“In the new hospital, traditional whiteboards will be replaced with an incredible footwall monitor! The footwall provides patients with an unprecedented amount of information and interactive content. Patients will be able to access details about their care team and their contact information, as well as view educational materials, relaxation content, entertainment, and even the ability to order their meals.”

“Each patient room will also have uniquely designed clinical workstations. These workstations feature wall-mounted computers with swivel keyboards, allowing clinicians to engage directly with patients and the ability to maintain eye contact with the patient. Clinicians will also be able to share diagnostic images and test results from the workstation with the patient via the footwall monitor. This integration of technology enhances the quality of care and strengthens our commitment to patient-centered excellence.”

  1. We told you so, this is just the beginning. Their financial advisor have spoken to the Valley board and they are already discussed that that building is not feasible anymore, it’s outdated, and they are not going to dump big investments into that site anymore. why would they when they have, $1 billion facility a mile east of them. That location will shut down in the future in that location will turn it out to be multiuse housing.

    1. Geez…I hate to admit it but you were right.

Knock it down and build a 60×90 ballfield, Pee Wee can do the financing.

    2. HUGE sports complex on the way with hotels to house tournament away teams .
What say those from the BF neighborhood who spoke at every council mtg in support of Schedler.

  2. It is a great site for mixed development. How about a mall + a couple of high rises. That should bring in a lot of tax revenue that peevee can use for other major projects such as fields and sh!t. Oh how exciting to be living in a NYC borough again. Thriving, exciting, dynamic, inclusive.
Rejoice peeps. And neevr forget to vote Murphy, PeeVee and Josh and brandon again. Never betray your habits. They count more than your family.

  3. Valley is a business that only cared about itself. Those who thought otherwise were duped

  4. I think the new hospital is fantastic and very conveniently located. I wish we had thought of this many years ago instead of fighting about building an inappropriately sized hospital next to BF

  5. Huge loss for Ridgewood. Congratulations to Paramus and Valley.

    1. Shut up Audrey.

  6. Of course, it’s a business. I say, but too big high rises there, any end Valley Hospital will win. They are going to jam housing up Ridgewood ass. Or they would just shut the side down completely and put up a 20 foot fence around the whole site and let it sit there for years. Let it rot they can do it. They own the property and they don’t pay any tax on it.

    1. Last I heard Valley was going to continue using the Ridgewood location as well, just for a smaller subset of care.

  7. I find it rather annoying that Anonymous posters brag about “ I told you so” esp. about things that have been discussed/debated for years.

I live about 1/2 from the old hospital. Am I going to miss the proximity and piece of mind of knowing it was so close…sure. Do I blame valley for doing what they are doing. Of course not. There are 100 reasons to build what they are doing in Paramus and about 3 to stay in RW.

    1. Okay anonymous.

  8. 2024 is going to be a rough year for the nimby’s. Won the battle but lost the war.

  9. The new Valley Hospital is beautiful! Could have remained the pride of Ridgewood. Will now be a sad chapter in history.

  10. We told you so, because we knew it was going to close. Many of us are going to miss this hospital at this location. Valley Hospital has been very good to my family and friends and neighbors. I have nothing bad to say about Valley. Yes, it is a business and we do understand that they need to Expand keep up with the times, totally understandable. The village drop the ball they screwed up big time. Do you realize how much business Valley brought into the village. While people were getting daily treatments, family members will go into the CBD park parking shop eat drink so on , no more now they’re going to Paramus. Unfortunately you’ll see more stores close in the cbd. My family and I were going to buy a business in the CBD, but we changed our mind. We’re going to invest real close to the new Valley hospital in Paramus. It’s a no-brainer. Opportunities and cheaper rent and free parking and more traffic not to mention, Valley donated a lot of money into the village. I guess what the town will loose money on road maintenance and things like that because it’s not a priority anymore salt, calcium, road, maintenance, plowing, sweeping, so on that would be all trance formed to Paramus.

  12. Despite all the hoopla and ugly comments, this is a significant loss for Ridgewood. Valley has taken care of my entire family for over 40 years. Grandbabies born there, hospitalized and cared for there, my Covid hospitalization and so very much more. This is an awesome hospital and a gem for the community. But, it needs to be in Paramus, there is simply no room there. It is unfortunate.

Plans for the existing site are in development, and dense housing is not one of them. Stop, and tell the truth, or be quiet. Rumor and nonsense solve nothing.

    1. I was born there John. Who cares?
