The crime spree led to over a dozen burglaries were reported overnight Wednesday in Teaneck, Bogota and Hackensack.
The teen with the gun was charged with possession of a handgun, a large-capacity magazine and hollow-nose ammunition then remanded to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center. The two remaining teenagers were released to family members.
The teens were spotted peering into vehicles one which later appeared to have been burglarized near Audubon Road just after midnight on Thursday, police said.
Apparently the teens were unaware of Governor Murphy signing into law A4769/S-3214 which makes various revisions to requirements for obtaining a firearm purchaser identification card, permit to purchase a handgun, and permit to carry a handgun; codifies sensitive places in which firearms and destructive devices are prohibited.
Teaneck Police Department reminded residents to “do their part” to prevent motor vehicle burglary and theft by “locking their doors, not leaving key fobs in vehicles, and securing valuables inside their homes.”
Anyone with information about the investigation is urged to call Teaneck police at 201-837-2600.
