Paramus NJ, Ryan Scully, a third-year student-athlete at the Bergen County Community College , was informed by his coach earlier this month that the college will not resume athletic activities for the remainder of the school year. Scully started this petition to bring athletics back to Bergen Community College.
In sScully’s own words , “I am a track and field athlete. I have spent the past year training and staying active in the best way possible during the pandemic, hopeful that my school, Bergen Community College, would allow me and every other athlete, whether it be for track, baseball, or softball, have a spring season for the 2020-21 school year.
Unfortunately, on February 3 this year, I found out through my coach that BCC has decided not have to spring sports this year. Without a doubt, every single BCC athlete is feeling the same disappointment as I am, having our spring season taken from us and miss out on competing for the second straight year. However, this major setback has not stopped me from meeting up with my teammates and coach to keep on training and become better athletes. I know my teammates, as well as my coach and every other BCC athlete, are willing to do anything it takes to continue competing during the pandemic.
I’m asking you to spread the word to your friends and family to have as many signatures as possible for this petition. It would provide support for myself and every other BCC athlete, and would help show the President and Athletic Director how much we want our spring season to happen. With BCC being used as a covid testing site, 13 out of 15 junior colleges in NJ proceeding with their spring season, to the few number of students that still take in person classes on campus, to the significant number of colleges and high schools around the country letting almost every sport happen, why can’t BCC work something out to have a spring season for their athletes.
