While I have zero interest in letting anyone rent my home, I have enjoyed AirBnB in cities around the world. They are terrific. As for Ridgewood, I seriously doubt our location would attract many tourist types. More likely visitors with work or other commitments in the immediate area. I guess I am too busy with my own life to watch who is parking in someone else’s driveway and in any case I know most of my neighbors well enough to trust their judgment on this, It seems a balanced approach with some regulation is the right response. So kudos to the Mayor for recognizing some compromise may be appropriate.

Newark NJ, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark Fugitive Operations team officers arrested one of ERO’s most wanted fugitives Tuesday.
Javier Atlixqueno-Vaquero, 37, a citizen of Mexico, was arrested late Tuesday night after ERO identified Vaquero leaving his residence. Atlixqueno is a convicted felon for the crimes of sexual assault with a minor, felony sale of hallucinogen/narcotic controlled substance, and felony failure to appear.
He was ordered removed by an immigration judge May 7, 2004 and was removed from the U.S. to Mexico May 19, 2004. Atlixqueno unlawfully re-entered the U.S. at an unknown date.
Vaquero was recently added to ERO most wanted fugitives list https://www.ice.gov/most-wanted.
“Protecting national security, public safety and our borders by identifying and removing dangerous criminal fugitives from our communities is the top priority of our fugitive operations teams, said John Tsoukaris, Field Office Director for ERO Newark. “A convicted felon and one of our most wanted fugitives; Mr. Atlixqueno-Vaquero is a threat no more and is in custody awaiting removal from the United States. I commend the hard work and dedication of our officers.”
The ICE National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center (NCATC) provided critical investigative support for this arrest, including criminal and intelligence analysis from a variety of sources. The NCATC provides comprehensive analytical support to aid the at-large enforcement efforts of all ICE components.
Since Oct. 1, 2009, ERO has removed more than 1,700 foreign fugitives from the United States who were being sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder. ERO works with Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) Office of International Operations, foreign consular offices in the United States and Interpol to identify foreign fugitives illegally present in the country.
Members of the public who have information about foreign fugitives are urged to contact ICE by calling the toll-free ICE tip line at 1 (866) 347-2423 or internationally at 001-1802-872-6199. They can also file a tip online by completing ICE’s online tip form.
Car park app offers users £10 reward to snitch on people parking illegally

A private parking firm has created an app that promises to pay users to report illegally parked cars.
UK Car Park Management’s (UK CPM) i-Ticket app, which is available for free on Google Play and the App Store, pays a £10 commission to users who upload a picture of the vehicle and its registration number.
The company then uses DVLA data to send a £60 fine to the vehicle owner, a fee that rises to £100 if it isn’t paid within two weeks.

In a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer declared that the early theme defining President Donald Trump’s administration was “incompetence leading to chaos.”
“It’s amazing how poorly done so many things have been that have come out of the White House in the first two weeks,” the New York Democrat said.
A few hours later during a CNN town hall, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said Trump’s selection of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court was bad “if you breathe air, drink water, eat food or take medicine.”
And in the wake of Trump’s abrupt firing of the nation’s acting attorney general, Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, a candidate for Democratic Party chairman, rushed so quickly to vilify the president he left out a word in his merciless statement.
“By all accounts, this is looking like failed presidency,” he said.

Citizens from five Muslim-majority countries will no longer be able to obtain Kuwaiti visas, after reports the Gulf state issued tight entry restrictions that mirrored US President Donald Trump’s Muslim ban.
Syrians, Iraqis, Iranians, Pakistanis and Afghans will not be able to obtain visit, tourism or trade Kuwaiti visas with the news coming one day after the US slapped its own restrictions on seven Muslim-majority countries.

NEWARK — A Bergen County man was sentenced Thursday to a year of federal probation after admitting he helped disguise $80,000 in foreign contributions to Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign committee in order to help Albanian politician attend a campaign event.
Bilal Shehu, of Paramus, previously pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Newark to charges he “knowingly and willfully” made foreign contributions to the committee, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman.
The case stemmed from an appearance Shehu and Edi Rama, head of the Albanian Socialist Party and now the country’s prime minister, made at an October 2012 Obama campaign event in San Francisco.
Prosecutors say Rama was denied admission to the event but managed to be photographed with the president.
Ridgewood NJ, according to sources Bergen County Republican Chairman Paul DiGaetano is moving forward with his plans to run for the state senate in the 40th Legislative District.
DiGaetano is finalizing a slate that will oppose the Republican ticket topped by Passaic County Clerk Kristin Corrado. If the chairman (a former assemblyman) moves forward, the winner of a Corrado versus DiGaetano contest would succeed retiring state Senator Kevin O’Toole.

There’s the popular global narrative for you after just ten days of Donald Trump’s tenure as President of the United States of America.
Indeed, such is his monstrosity status, there is currently a petition in Britain to have him banned from receiving a state visit as a guest of The Queen that has so far been signed by nearly two million people.
This follows the huge marches around the US and UK in response to Trump’s ill-conceived and poorly executed temporary ‘travel ban’ on immigrants and refugees from seven terror-strewn predominantly Muslim countries.
Protestors, led by incensed celebrities and politicians on both sides of the Atlantic, have been competing to see who can be most abusive about the President.
Many of them, ironically, deploying the very same coarse misogynist rhetoric they cite as one of their main reasons to hate him.

KENILWORTH — A Catholic school that expelled a seventh-grade student whose family sued in an attempt to get her a spot on the boys basketball team was acting in accordance with school policy, officials with the Archdiocese of Newark said Thursday.
“I am just in total shock right now,” said Scott Phillips, who received a letter Wednesday saying that his two daughters, Sydney and Kaitlyn, were no longer welcome at St. Theresa’s School in Kenilworth.
The possibility of the girls getting thrown out,” never even crossed my mind. It’s over joining a basketball team,” he said. “I am so disappointed.”
Jim Goodness, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Newark, said Sydney’s parents signed an acknowledgement in August of the school’s policy, which clearly states that legal action against the school will result in students’ expulsion.
Kellyanne Conway, President Donald Trump’s top counselor, blasted Senate Democrats on Thursday for attempting to slow down the president’s nominees to top federal posts, including his pick for the US Supreme Court.
Conway expressed frustration on “Fox & Friends” with Democratic opposition to Trump’s supreme court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch, dubbing Senate Democrats “a bunch of crybabies who say that they’re going to oppose Supreme Court nominees before they even know his name.”
“This obstinance and obstruction is the modern Democratic party,” Conway said.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Lt. Brian Pullman and Ptl. Kyle Scarpa were approached while on patrol and notified of two male parties soliciting money for candy in the area of North Walnut Street on January 28. The parties were then located and found to be soliciting without a permit. Both parties were identified and found to have active warrants for arrest out of Jersey City, N.J. Both parties were arrested at the scene and transported to Ridgewood Police headquarters. Both arrestees were issued summons for Village of Ridgewood ordinance violations and Jersey City P.D. responded and took custody of the arrestees.
