How long has it taken us to demand an answer to that most basic question. How is this expansion good for Ridgewood? I think that Valley and all of its over paid experts are truly stumped.
They’re “stumped”for good reasons. First of all, they’re paid by Valley to stick to the over used line that everyone that goes into a hospital won’t come out unless they have a private room. That’s like saying don’t take mass transit because your chances of catching a cold are higher. No kidding ! I’m all for private rooms, but not 400 plus on a site that should have ai lot less.
Second, none of these people even live here. Their opinions are based on questionable data and short term observations. And how anyone cannot see through that is beyond me.
Reader asks Valley refuses to provide us with a scale model of their plan. Why?
They really have not scored a lot of PR points with this latest move. Then again, do they really care too ? Not at all. In fact, just based on the application itself it shows they could care less about this town.
Valley refuses to provide us with a scale model of their plan. Why? And we have seen no rendering of the view from Linwood Avenue. Hmmm….why?
The answer given at the most recent Planning Board meeting: it would be too costly. Pleeease!
Valley Hospital does not want us to see what their expansion will look like
Reader says Valley hasn’t even broken ground and people are already leaving
Remember ” build it and they will come?” Just what you want in Ridgewood…a medical center to rival Hackensack and St. Joseph’s. Please don’t be dumb enough to think that can’t happen, because in both cases it did.
The photo with the “For Sale” sign is the real thing. Valley hasn’t even broken ground and people are already leaving—selling their houses for much less than they would have had Valley not been pressing this issue. Already homes are turning into rentals, and at least one owner has had to “short sell” his home. Others have been bought as second homes and are not maintained properly because the owners don’t spend a lot of time here. THIS IS HAPPENING, FOLKS. Those of us who actually live here know what this will do to our neighborhoods.
Sadly, Valley officials know it too—they just don’t care

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood firefighters and police officers responded to a home located in the 200 block of South Pleasant Avenue early Saturday evening in response to a 911 telephone call reporting a chemical odor emanating from a residential garage.
Arriving firefighters quickly identified the odor’s source as a container filled with aging chlorine tablets, which were starting to sublime. On duty personnel from the Bergen County Department of Health and Human Services Hazardous Materials Division were quickly summoned to assist Ridgewood firefighters.
After an extensive evaluation and consultation period, it was determined that the safest method to dispose of the material was to release the container’s contents into the sanitary sewer system, followed by a significant flush of fresh water. This was safely accomplished after a portion of South Pleasant Avenue was closed to traffic and a manhole was opened. No one was injured during the incident.

Bill Kristol: A year ago Obama said al-Qaida is on the run, and now WE are on the run
Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol remarked on Sunday that President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign rhetoric on foreign policy stood in stark contrast to the turmoil in the Middle East stirred by threats from al-Qaida, pointing out that the U.S. closed 22 embassies throughout the Muslim world.
“Four years ago President Obama gave a much heralded speech as outreach to the Muslim world,” Kristol said. “And now, four years later we are closing embassies throughout the Muslim world. A year ago, the president said al-Qaida is on the run. And now we seem to be on the run.”
“I’m not criticizing the decision to close the embassies. That’s probably the right thing to do for the sake of trying to save American lives and others, but it’s a terrible thing,” he added. “That you know, just a year ago boasting al-Qaida is on the run and Osama bin Laden is dead.”
US Rents Hit Record Highs As Homeownership Plunges To 18 Year Lows
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/30/2013 11:01 -0400
The American Homeownership Dream is officially dead. Long live the New Normal American Dream: Renting.
According to the latest quarterly homeownership data released by the Census Bureau, the raw homeownership rate of 65.0% was unchanged from last quarter and 0.4% lower than a year ago. And on a seasonally adjusted basis (not sure why homeownership is adjusted for seasons: people who live in a house in the winter generally live under a bridge in the summer?), the percentage of Americans who have a house declined from 65.2% to 65.1%: the lowest since 1995.
Car company with ties to Terry McAuliffe is under SEC investigation
By Tom Hamburger and Ben Pershing, E-mail the writers
An electric-car company co-founded by Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe (D) is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission over its conduct in soliciting foreign investors, according to law enforcement documents and company officials.
In May, the SEC subpoenaed documents from GreenTech Automotive and bank records from a sister company, Gulf Coast Funds Management of McLean. The investigation is focused, at least in part, on alleged claims that the company “guarantees returns” to the investors, according to government documents.

Proposal would allow Sunday car sales in New Jersey, but not Bergen County

The Record
Northern Bergen County is a destination for new-car buyers from throughout the metropolitan area, who can flock to a stretch of Route 17 for anything from Hyundai Accents to Lamborghinis and Porsche 911 convertibles, displayed in showrooms that range from flat-roofed bunkers to glassy palaces.
But those dealerships are closed on Sundays, and they would be even without the county’s blue laws. That’s because of a state statute that makes anyone who sells a motor vehicle on the traditional day of rest subject to arrest on a disorderly persons charge. Violators face fines of up to $100 and 10 days in jail for the first offense.
A bill introduced last month by Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo, a Mercer County Democrat, would change that law and permit dealers to open on Sundays throughout most of the state — but not in Bergen County, where the blue laws would still apply.
If the ban is lifted, dealers throughout New Jersey could remain closed on Sunday if they chose to, but competitive pressures might make that difficult.
House subpoenas Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew for IRS documents
By Stephen Dinan
The Washington Times
House Republicans on Friday accused Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew of obstructing their investigation into the IRS’s targeting of tea party and conservative groups, and issued subpoenas for more agency documents.
Oversight committee chairman Darrell Issa, California Republican, sent a scathing latter to Mr. Lew blasting him and President Obama for dismissing the GOP’s claims about IRS targeting as a “phony” scandal, saying that Mr. Lew has “attempted to thwart” his investigation.
