Bergen County police chief to retire this year

Bergen County Police Department Chief Brian Higgins, 49, plans to retire Dec. 31, authorities said.
Higgins, who is also the county’s public safety director, filed his letter of intent to the county executive on Nov. 25 and told his department today, Capt. James Mullin said.

Guess he saw the handwriting on the wall. #1 there will be no new chief of the Bergen County Police they will be consolidated with the Sheriff Dept and there is only on SHERIFF
Regardless of the proposed merger, Higgins would have been out on his ass anyway. The Chief’s job is appointed, and he was appointed by a Republican organization. Jimmy T. would have appointed his own man/woman anyway.
Retiring at 49? What will his one time payout and pension be?
this is the problem with the fire and police, this must stop.why is it that a cop or a fire men can retire at that age, and others must work to 60 or 65, thats bull shit in my book.
