Hackensack NJ, Bergen Emergency Medical Services marks its 2nd anniversary. In just 2 years, our team has responded to over 12,500 calls and grown to a staff of 16 full-time EMTs and 33 per diems, with 9 ambulances in our fleet and 2 more set to be delivered this summer. Operating 24/7, Bergen EMS has visited every one of our 70 municipalities since its creation.

Established in February of 2023 , Bergen County officials established the Bergen County EMS to address the volunteer shortage at the local level, a situation exacerbated by the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. Some community-based emergency medical services had to cease operations due to the declining number of volunteers, and the county-operated ambulances have stepped in to address the gap.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco , said in a Facebook post,  We are proud to offer this vital, lifesaving service to our residents and our municipalities, and we are especially proud of the fact that our County residents will never see an invoice from our service. Thank you to our dedicated EMTs and staff who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. It is because of all of you that Bergen County is one of the top 10 safest counties in the nation.”

  1. Just the county and its ‘Executive’ Tedesco trying to be relevant. Did he not pose with an ambulance for the usual photo op? Fix the road manhole depressions all across the county!!
