Bergen volunteer firefighter Charged with Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography

New Milford NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ANGELO J. DECARLO (DOB: 6/13/1965; married; account manager; volunteer firefighter lieutenant) of 783 Princeton Street, New Milford, NJ, on charges of Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography, Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, and Promoting Obscenity To A Minor. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of ANGELO J. DECARLO during the course of an Internet child pornography investigation. The investigation revealed that DECARLO used the Internet to view, download, possess, and share digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children. In addition, DECARLO used online chat forums and applications to engage in sexually explicit online chat conversations with underage girls. Further investigation revealed that during such online conversations, DECARLO obtained nude and/or sexually explicit images of juveniles, sent nude images to the children, and engaged in sexually explicit video chats.

As a result of the investigation, ANGELO DECARLO was arrested on October 27, 2020 in Paramus, NJ and charged with one count of Distribution Of Child Pornography, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(a)i, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Possession Of Child Pornography, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)iii, a 3rd degree crime; one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a 3rd degree2 of 2crime; and one count of Promoting Obscenity To A Minor, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:34-3b(1), a 3rd degree crime. DECARLO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

This investigation, led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, is ongoing. Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would also like to thank the New Milford Police Department for its assistance in this investigation, as well as the Lyndhurst Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, which participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force
