Ridgewood NJ, U.S. News evaluated 98 hospitals in New Jersey. Fifteen meet high U.S. News standards and are ranked in the state. U.S. News also ranked hospitals in the New York and Philadelphia metro areas. The number 1 hospital in New Jersey is Morristown Medical Center. Three of the fifteen are Bergen County based .
1. Morristown Medical Center
The Morristown hospital maintained its top ranking yet again, receiving national rankings in three adult areas: cardiology and heart surgery (No. 46), obstetrics and gynecology (No. 28) and orthopedics (No. 23). It also garnered high performance ratings in gastroenterology and G.I. surgery, geriatrics, urology, and pulmonology and lung surgery. The hospital ranks ninth in the New York region.
2. Hackensack University Medical Center
The hospital dropped to second this year after tying for tops in New Jersey in 2021. But it received national rankings in four adult areas, including cardiology and heart surgery (No. 43), neurology and neurosurgery (No. 42), orthopedics (No. 43) and urology (No. 31). It received a national ranking in one children’s specialty — pediatric nephrology (No. 34). It ranks as high performing in four adult areas: cancer, gastroenterology and G.I. surgery, geriatrics, and pulmonology and lung surgery. The hospital ranks 10th in the New York region.
3. Valley Hospital
The Ridgewood hospital — ranking 16th in the New York region — garnered high-performance status in one adult area: orthopedics. It also received high ratings in more than a dozen procedure and condition categories, from cancer and cardiology/heart surgery to diabetes and stroke.
4. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
The New Brunswick hospital got high performing marks in two adult areas — cancer and gastroenterology and G.I. surgery. It also scored high in 10 procedure and condition categories.
5. Overlook Medical Center
Overlook — located in Summit — performed well in two adult areas: orthopedics and neurology and neurosurgery. It earned high marks in eight procedure and condition categories, including in cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and stroke. It ranks 22nd in the New York region.

The Voorhees hospital, ranking 12th in the Philadelphia area, scored high in nine adult procedure and condition categories, including colon cancer surgery, heart failure, diabetes, kidney failure and stroke.

Located in Plainsboro, the facility performed well in one adult area — orthopedics — and in several procedure and condition categories, including heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, hip fracture, hip replacement, knee replacement and COPD. The hospital ranks 24th among New York area hospitals.
6. (tie) Jersey Shore University Medical Center
Part of Hackensack Meridian Health, the Neptune facility received a national ranking in pediatric nephrology and high-performance marks in several procedure and condition categories, including colon and lung cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, diabetes, kidney failure, stroke and COPD. The facility ranks first in New Jersey for pediatric care.

The hospital earned high marks in one adult specialty — orthopedics. It also rates high in colon and lung cancer surgeries, heart attack, heart failure and hip fracture.

The medical center ranks 12th in the Philadelphia area, receiving high ratings in eight adult procedure and condition categories, including colon cancer surgery, diabetes, and heart bypass and aortic valve surgery.

The Livingston facility rated high performing in one adult area — gastroenterology and GI surgery — and in several procedure and condition categories related to cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and kidney failure.

The Atlantic City hospital performed well in eight procedure and condition categories, including in cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes, kidney failure and stroke.

Located in Brick, the hospital — part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network — ranks 29th in the New York area, receiving high marks in procedure and condition categories such as colon cancer surgery, diabetes and kidney failure.

Ranking 15th in the Philadelphia region, the Stratford facility rated high in eight adult procedure and condition categories, including heart failure, diabetes, kidney failure and stroke.
15. Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital
The Camden hospital ranks 16th in the Philadelphia region and scored well in several adult procedure and condition categories, including heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, diabetes, kidney failure and stroke.
Wait in till ridgewood Valley Hospital turns into housing. Yes valley hospital in Paramus is turning out to be a great hospital, but don’t forget they’re kind of merging with New York hospital, do you see what’s going on. Going back to the old hospital in a few years they’re not going to need it at all, don’t want anyone bullshit you. The writing is all true on the Wall. Any financial visor would tell you the same why would they keep that it’s not benefit. Is it a major tax write off if they donate building to the county and state, no because they don’t need a tax write off. They on the property they can lease it for political benefits, we just sell it to a developer. Can you imagine what that property is worth. and the top hours impress would love Valley to sell that whole site to a developer calmer why are you ask well guess what big big taxes. Big revenue coming into the town. Remember a few years ago when I said the town is broke yeah OK, you can believe that bullshit I know otherwise.
