Yes, bobcats are found in New Jersey! Though elusive, they are the state’s only native wild cat species. Bobcats were once nearly extinct in the state due to habitat loss and hunting, but conservation efforts, including a reintroduction program in the 1970s and 1980s, have helped their population recover.
Bobcats typically live in remote, forested areas of northern New Jersey, such as the Highlands and the Kittatinny Ridge. They are solitary, mostly nocturnal creatures, and their elusive nature makes sightings rare. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, like rabbits and squirrels, as well as birds.
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife monitors bobcat populations and considers them a species of special concern. While their population is growing, bobcats remain vulnerable to habitat fragmentation and vehicle collisions.

Top speed 43mph. Don’t try to outrun this cat.
Yes I knew I seen it along the parkway at night a few weeks ago. For a sec I was like whoa, I was told a few years back that the game warden put them out the control deer in West Milford, How true I’m not sure. I didn’t get a chance to see if it had a tracking Collar on it.
They are not that much bigger than a large house cat. Deer are not on their prey list.
That looks like a mountain lion or catamount , bigger than a bobcat
His/her tail is ‘bobbed”, thus a Bobcat.
