Booker’s Qualifications to Lecture on Crime Reduction Challenged

METUCHEN, NJ – “Cory Booker claims to have made Newark safer, but the facts speak for themselves: nine shooting deaths in the last ten days and hundreds dead since Booker took office 7 years ago. Cory Booker has failed the people of Newark and now wants to do to America what he’s done to his City. He has been unable to quell rampant violence and instead of finishing the job there, he now travels the state and the country holding fundraisers with his Hollywood friends so that he can get a promotion.”

METUCHEN, NJ – Mayor Steve Lonegan, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, made the following comments at the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair regarding Cory Booker’s recent portrayal of himself as an expert reducing crime.

Lonegan said, “Cory Booker claims to have made Newark safer, but the facts speak for themselves: nine shooting deaths in the last ten days and hundreds dead since Booker took office 7 years ago. Cory Booker has failed the people of Newark and now wants to do to America what he’s done to his City. He has been unable to quell rampant violence and instead of finishing the job there, he now travels the state and the country holding fundraisers with his Hollywood friends so that he can get a promotion.”

“Booker should focus on the needs of his city and put his political ambition aside.”

Lonegan served as Bogota Mayor for twelve years, winning three times in a town that gave Barack Obama 67.5 percent of the vote in 2012. He served for seven years as state director of Americans for Prosperity New Jersey, where he helped defeat liberal attempts to expand big government. Steve Lonegan is the conservative Republican candidate in the New Jersey special election for the United States Senate. Lonegan stands firmly on the bedrock conservative values of small government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty.
