Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Village Manager Keith Kazmark commented on the closing of  Warner Bow Tie Cinemas saying in a Facebook post;

“While our community is saddened by the news of the closing of Warner Bow Tie Cinemas (after 90+ years), a new chapter will soon be written. Mayor Vagianos has been in touch with ownership and Bow Tie Partners plans to remain part of the downtown Ridgewood community. They are currently evaluating multiple scenarios for redevelopment of the movie theater space, including conversion back to a single auditorium to be used as a performing arts venue. More to come as plans finalize!”

A blog reader suggested, “The Ridgewood Guild and Ridgewood Arts Foundation will be interested in partnering with the owner. they have already reached out to the owner. Between the two groups , there is a lot of high powered entertainment types that always have supported the arts within Ridgewood and the surrounding communities.”

  1. Plans finalize???????
    Can we start calling Paulie a dictator?

  2. Sounds good, but the theatre in Ramsey has been vacant for years. Rent and Ridgewood commercial property tax rates will be the determining factors. Unless the owner is a charity, these ideas are doomed. If a theatre can’t make it, neither will a performing arts center.

  3. Just keep the mayor away from this property

    A performance art center similar to the Mayo Center in Morristown is huge for the businesses in the CBD

  4. There are awarding winning actors involved in The Ridgewood Arts Foundation and Ridgewood Guild who would be influential in drawing top tier talent to a newly designed performing arts center in downtown Ridgewood . As an example, on the Ridgewood Arts Foundation board is Alina Swanson, whose daughter is a young award winning movie actress. Only this past Sunday, Ridgewood raised Broadway actress Ali Stroker signed her latest book at Bookends. And of course the many musical and celebrity connections Willie Geist has will be a big plus once he is officially is approached about the project

    Add in an art gallery to the final building design and include modern and classical dance performances and something that has been long lacking in Northwest Bergen County can finally be achieved.

    1. Similar in concept to The Mayo Center in Morristown ( 1325 seats) and The Bergen PAC in Englewood.

      Ridgewood has great restaurants in the CBD and can offer something the other 2 performance art centers can’t, a covered Parking Garage ( that is never fully utilized) in close proximity to the future performing arts venue .
      If anything can revitalize the CBD, this is it!!!!

    2. And so many award winning talents have resided in Ridgewood for many many years. I do not know where he is now but Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogarts son called Ridgewood his home.
      There are many, too numerous to mention. Including my father who, in his day, (now deceased), was top in broadcasting (ABC/NBC Blue Network). I know for a fact he would have applauded this hopeful venture and given his time and talent towards it.
      Let’s hope something wonderful can come out of all of this

  6. Brick and mortar retail is dying fast, particularly in these suburban downtowns. No way will anything replace this, other than some heavily tax-payer subsidized project.
