80-Year-Old Woman Attacked in Bergenfield Walgreens Carjacking; Suspect Apprehended

Bergenfield NJ, A Sunday morning shopping trip turned into a violent encounter for a River Edge resident at a local Walgreens. At approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 3, Bergenfield police responded to a reported carjacking at 406 South Washington Avenue, where an 80-year-old woman was targeted while sitting in her vehicle.
The Confrontation at Walgreens
Authorities report that the victim was seated in her 2017 grey Jeep Cherokee when a man approached and demanded her keys. In an act of bravery, the woman refused to comply.
The situation escalated when the suspect forcibly pulled the woman from the Jeep and grabbed her purse. The assailant then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, heading south toward Teaneck.
Rapid Response and Arrest
The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived on the scene to treat the victim, who suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for evaluation.

Identification: Using witness descriptions, Bergenfield detectives identified the suspect as Jordan Rucker, 35, of Bergenfield.

The Stop: Less than an hour later, at 9:30 a.m., Teaneck Police intercepted the stolen Jeep on East Forest Avenue.

The Arrest: Rucker was taken into custody without further incident. During the arrest, officers discovered he was in possession of a four-inch knife.
