Preserving the Past: The Ridgewood Historical Society

The Ridgewood Historical Society is the heartbeat of the village’s heritage. Dedicated to collecting and preserving the stories that shaped our town, the Society ensures that the legacy of Ridgewood’s residents—from the Lenape people and early Dutch settlers to the Victorian commuters—is never forgotten.

The Ridgewood Schoolhouse Museum

If you’ve ever walked past the charming red brick building on Franklin Turnpike, you’ve seen the Society’s headquarters: The Schoolhouse Museum.

  • Built in 1872: Originally a one-room schoolhouse (District No. 45), it served local children for over 30 years.

  • A Living Time Capsule: Today, it houses a vast collection of artifacts, including Dutch farm tools, Revolutionary War relics, and an extensive textile collection.

  • Community Resource: The museum offers rotating exhibits and educational programs that bring Ridgewood’s unique “creek-to-commuter” evolution to life.
