Brazilian Churrasco to Open in Garden State Plaza

Paramus NJ, Fogo de Chão, a restaurant from Brazil, is set to open its first location in NJ at the Westfield Garden State Plaza this year. The two-level restaurant will feature an open-air churrasco bar in the middle of the dining room, where guests can watch a gaucho chef prepare traditional Brazilian Churrasco dishes.

Churrasco is the Portuguese and Spanish name for beef or grilled meat more generally. It is a prominent feature in the cuisine of Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. The related term churrascaria is mostly understood to be a steakhouse restaurant serving grilled meat, many offering as much as one can eat: servers move around the restaurant with skewers, slicing meat onto the customer’s plate.

Fogo de Chão (fogo-dee-shown) is an internationally renowned restaurant that allows guests to discover what’s next at every turn. Founded in Southern Brazil in 1979, Fogo elevates the centuries-old cooking technique of churrasco – the art of roasting high-quality cuts of meat over an open flame – into a cultural dining experience of discovery. In addition to its Market Table and Feijoada Bar – which includes seasonal salads and soup, fresh vegetables, imported charcuterie and more – guests are served simplyseasoned meats that are butchered, fire-roasted and carved tableside by gaucho chefs. Guests can also indulge in dry-aged or premium Wagyu cuts, seafood a la carte, Bar Fogo Features including signature cocktails, and an award-winning South American wine list, as well as smaller, sharable plates in Bar Fogo. Fogo offers differentiated menus for all dayparts including lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and group dining, plus full-service catering and contactless takeout and delivery options.

Founded in Southern Brazil in 1979, Fogo de Chão specializes in traditional cooking techniques of churrasco, or grilled meat, by roasting cuts of meat over an open flame. According to the restaurant’s website, Guachos are traditionally known as cowboys from the Southern Brazil region who grew up preparing and cooking cuts of meat for family and friends at gatherings.

The new location will also feature dry-aged meat lockers for in-house aging, a lounge area for guests to drink craft cocktails and South American wines and private dining areas. It will be located in the former Bar Louie space near the mall entrance.
