Prompted by our recent report concerning multiple Ridgewood Water construction sites as having been identified as a source of contaminated soil dumped at the Schedler Park property, a former Village employee just notified us that Ridgewood Water dumped several loads of soil at 1057 Hillcrest Road during the construction phase of Habernickel Park.

The individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, identified the sloped area between the playground and the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook as the “target zone.” Dump trucks emblazoned with the Ridgewood Water logo were said to have been observed dumping material there on several occasions. Our informant says the dumping stopped immediately after a “big wig” at Village Hall became involved. Do any of our readers who lived near Habernickel when it was being constructed remember seeing Ridgewood Water dump trucks going in and out of that site?
The Ridgewood Blog suggests that soil in the noted area of Habernickel be tested for contaminants prior to the construction of the planned pavilion and rest room facility. Out of an abundance of caution, as they say.

  1. Oh man what’s next

    1. Brutal. So inept, so dirty.

  2. Didn’t the water department dump dirt up In Wyckoff at one of the water departments Pump station years ago, and the resident told them to stop dumping dirt.

  3. We told you they should’ve never f””k’ed with Certain people. They woke up to sleeping giant. What comes around goes around. A Old employee told me one time you know when they.f””k with you, you f””k back much harder. Paybacks are bitch, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. We told you the village was dirty. Just didn’t believe us but now it’s all coming out.

  4. Ironically, a few years back, Ridgewood Water filed suit against a company that dumped contaminated fill near one of their wells in Wyckoff.

  5. Where and when at Habernickel? That is so concerning. There is a business there with a garden, children play there? Toxins ? Please confirm

  6. Wow that’s right where there is a garden and a playground!!! This is insane. Do people eat out of that garden?

  7. The mayor council manager do your job. It’s time to clean house. We told you this. Start from the manager write down to some of the supervision they all sleeping in the same bed. I don’t give two shits we’ve been telling you for years what’s going on and you look the other way and you swept it under the carpet in Village hall. So guess what now the shit hits the fan, the cats out of the bag, let’s see how the cookie crumbles, everyone knows now.

  8. I don’t care what anybody says. I wouldn’t drink the water. It’s not like what used to be. Maybe with all these improvements down the road. It will be good. I don’t trust any top leaders in the village.

  9. Start investigating Ridgewood water, Village Engineer (Chris Rutishauser) and Assistant Engineer (Jovan Mehandzic). It’s internally known that Jovan’s family business is moving soil.
