Ridgewood NJ, in response to receipt of a verbal report of soil contamination found at the Schedler Park site on West Saddle River Road, the Ridgewood Village Council has decided to inform the State of New Jersey’s Historic Preservation Office that development plans for the Schedler Park site will be held in abeyance until the soil contamination issue is formally addressed.
Stay tuned to The Ridgewood Blog for further updates on this unanticipated announcement, which was made during Wednesday night’s Village Council Work Session.

The Money Pit.
Well, that’s a no-brainer.
Finally, now they are caught with their pants down…
They must be having meetings on top of meetings, backpedaling is happening right now . Lots of concern over contamination because they know they liable for peoples health.
And rehearsals. Vagianos questioning everyone was pure theatrics.
Let’s note, this administration (with the exception of Lorraine Reynolds) refused to do any testing or studies when residents reported concerns. Testing and halting of work was a result of residents turning to the NJDEP for help. #dirtypoliticians #keithkazmark #paulvagianos
Village Hall is as dirty as the dirt at Schedler!
Post of the day!
Look out Hawes, here it comes!
Councilwoman Winograd indicated during a field committee meeting that Hawes is not being considered for any type of initiative. The Hawes community is against it so the council is not going to proceed with anything new at that location.
People want a new field because they have a case of field envy not because there are not enough fields.
Winograd doesn’t run the Village. If having a field is such a dire emergency, which we know it is not, then Glen School or hawes, both available for immediate expansion, are perfect. Muller can get the sports kiddies to fight for it and can use the dad’s night email distribution list to create an online petition.
They say one thing, then change course as needed.
Don’t believe any one of them what is said at “committee” some self interests, then back peddle.
They do not want to hear “public comments” at committee meetings, they have their own agendas.
Paul Vaginosis and Keith Kazmark, this is what happens when false statements are made about easily verifiable facts. The soil was and is contaminated!
Things are just heating up. Wait until they test the entire parcel. This Administration is going to be completely exposed.
If I were them, I would be extremely nervous at this point. They will be on the hot seat for sure with the state agencies once all of the reports have been completed. Any soil remediation will be under the direction of the state so no messin around anymore. Unfortunately, this municipal crew thinks that they are untouchable and they have huge egos.
So the powers that be hauled in contaminated soil and then when tax payers started asking questions and had concerns of contamination they refused to look into it u til they were forced by a power higher?
What kind of monsters are running our town.
How can they be held accountable. This is our town, our health and our children.
What is wrong with this crew?
They have no morals, it’s all about them, they ( Pee wee, unless Evan, Wino, Lorraine and The Puppet Keith) Typical Far Left, they don’t care what the people want ..
Please sell the property already! Want a waste of time and money
I agree sell the property if you are able to
They can’t now, they are stuck with it
so the soil will be remediated. and the project will move forward. nothing to see here.
To “Nothing to see” At this point, the emporer has no cloths (you can look it up). A true metaphor for the fact that the village and sports teams were made promises when Ridgewood was telling them that they were getting a giant field and it was happening. The project may move forward to become a park or something, after the soil is thoroughly testing again and fully rememdiated which may take a very long time. The state then gets to determine what is allowable to be places on a historic property. There is plenty to see and hear here, almost on a daily if not hourly basis. Please tune in to the same channel as everyone else so you can stay updated.
As of right now, data indicate that no remediation is necessary. With that said, data set is inadequate and this site requires further sampling. The presence of a contaminant does NOT mean a site is “contaminated” and in need of remediation. Think of it like this ….we all have fat in our bodies but not all of us are obese and in need of weight looks (remediation).
Comical
What a group of knuckleheads
I turned on to YouTube for the live VC meeting last night but couldn’t stay for more than 5 mins. Watching W and V talk turned my stomach. What a clown show.
This is just the beginning. Wait till the start on the Town Garage and the soil there.
If you listened carefully last night, SW admitted they want to take the berm down so that they can increase the field coverage. They are evil and are playing into the residents who want the soil tested and remediated to they benefit
She was Uber disappointed when one of the consultants mentioned the possibility of capping the berm, which would increase its size by 1 to 2 feet in height/width.
This merry band of misfits on the council will not get away with trying to put a wall up. First of all sports next to a wall is the absolute dumbest idea they have ever conceived from this evil bunch and their sports feinds.
The sound will reverberate into the neighborhood, think whistles, screaming. Let’s put it this way, Whino will probably be in her rocking chair at the old age home before that collosally stupic and utterly stupid idea ever comes to fruition.
Maybe Siobahn is trying to impress Mr. RBSA who as rumor would have it is gunning for more and more of Ridgewood’s field space as if they don’t already dominate most of the slots and fields. It brings out the country girl charm in her and by mentioning removing the berm, I assume she figures she can always whip this out for later use but that is going to be a very expensive proposition so these 2 swinging d’s might want to settle on another pact.
We hope that they’re reaching out to all employees that worked at that site. I’m sure there was a list of employees that was operating equipment throughout the years supposedly one equipment operators that worked at that site have recently retired.
Did council woman Winograd actually say “Welcome to expensive”? I would recommend she take her flippant remarks, pull up a chair and start to get real creative with her pals Vagianos, Perron, and Weitz. This is on your watch, so show us how fabulous this braintrust is and fix what will be a very expensive process that will likely take years. You do not have time to run to other towns to see their turf fields, so let’s buckle up for the ride of your life because the tax payers should not have to foot the bill for what seems to be a huge oops and you may have to redirect the current Schedler budget or devise an insurance liability plan to right these wrongs. The Town Garage is another money pit that will likely create an additional financial burden Ridgewood Village. Welcome to Bankrupt.
fixing a contaminated soil site is not done over night, usually takes between 10 to 15 years , it’s not just removing the contaminated soil, there is a entire process from the state
This council’s deceit, woeful mismanagement of time and capital, and sheer nastiness (excluding Lorraine) is surpassed only by their colossal stupidity.
I shudder to think of the genuine lasting damage they could cultivate if they weren’t so moronic and inept. The Mayor who couldn’t win an Assembly seat and his PFAS tree-loving posse…it is truly satire at this point!
A clown show of immeasurable proportions…even by New Jersey political standards…with each blunder (and ensuing response) more humiliating.
For a town where many so desperately aspire to Greenwich/Larchmont/Summit status, a truly laughable notion, let us hope the embarrassment and shame over this elected body compels change on election day.
Do you know what at this point? Yes, the whole site needs to be inspected. Remember everyone that soil not just in the berm, it’s in the whole site, we have witnessed equipment operators filling in low line areas throughout the whole site everything from W. Saddle River Rd. to Route 17, everywhere. That domination is spread throughout the whole site, trust us, we seen it, until the whole site is inspected then they can move forward. It’s not just the dirt berm.
Council person SW, The idiot stick figure without a soul, has been the most vocal about Schedler, along with the other 3 numbskulls. You’d almost believe that they spent their own money on this property and covet the budget like its was their pot of gold for the field of dreams. Well things ain’t looking too good right about now. Maybe Pauls environmental law skills will meed to kick back in, and he’s going to need some magic to pull out of his hat to make this go away. Evan may be calling 7-11 to see if they still want to buy the property and after all of this, Pam may call it a day and pack her hat collection and head to France. I’ll bet none of them could have predicted they would be the laughing stocks of the state and I’m sure the Village Manager thought this job was going to be easy money.
Great news. It will give the mayor and council a chance to go visit pasta primavera at the YMCA.
This is ideal because people will soon realize that the village doesn’t need a new field, they are confusing want and need. If you tell a kid they are getting a new bike, they need that new bike, even if the old one works fine. In reality, they should get the right people to manage the logistics around field maintenance on existing properties that need attention. Do you buy a new house because the roof needs fixing. No, same priciple applies. A feasibility study was conducted and identified the Glen School as ideal for expansion and also Hawes. The unfortunate perpetuation of misinformation of any lack of space is not confimed officially by the village or BOE who has stated that they are making things work fine with the existing properties they already have and a quick tool around town on any given day will show you plenty of empty fields, even on weekends so this rumor mill needs to stop and focus should be placed on getting the right people in place to organize the upkeep.
Baseball and Soccer want it? Let them pay for it.
The property was bought with state grants to be used for recreational purposes. I genuinely don’t understand the resistance. It is much better than a gas station or car dealership going in there.
That was truly an enjoyable session of “Municipal Madness”. Please stay tuned to next week’s episode where our very own Mayor, Paul Vagianos will host “Here Comes the Judge” truly one of television’s first and favorite memes played originally by Sammy Davis Jr. on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh In. Also, don’t forget to stop by Ben and Jerry’s to see if they have restocked “Here Comes the Fudge” and while you are there, you can have a first hand look at the Town Garage property which is up for consideration as the Deputy Mayor’s next free walking tour which will be exciting to see it before that soil will need to be tested and remediated.
