
Violence in Palisades Park: Alcohol-Fueled Argument Leads to Screwdriver Stabbing

Palisades Park NJ, A late-night gathering in Bergen County turned nearly fatal this past week when a local man was brutally attacked with a screwdriver. The Palisades Park Police Department has since apprehended two suspects following what authorities describe as a violent, alcohol-fueled dispute.
The Incident: A Late-Night Turn for the Worst
The violence erupted on Sunday, March 22, at approximately 3:38 a.m. inside a residence in Palisades Park. According to Police Captain James Rotundo, three men were drinking together when a heated argument broke out.
The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in a 30-year-old borough resident being stabbed three times in the neck and back with a screwdriver. In addition to the puncture wounds, the victim suffered a fractured jaw during the assault.
The Escape and Rescue
Despite his severe injuries, the victim managed to flee the home. He sought refuge by knocking on doors in the vicinity of East Homestead Avenue and Sunset Place.
Responding officers, including Patrol Detective James Park and Officer Julio Mancilla, arrived on the scene to render immediate medical aid. The swift response of the initial officers allowed the victim to receive stabilized care before being transported for further medical treatment.
Arrests Made: Palisades Park Detectives Close In
A follow-up investigation led by Detective Sgt. Michael Lee and Detective Brian Kunz resulted in the swift identification and arrest of two local men:

Selvin G. Sabancax (33): Charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Federico Aguinchapen (46): Charged with aggravated assault.
Police Chief George Beck praised the department’s rapid response, stating, “What appeared to be a serious, alcohol-fueled assault that caused significant injury led to a relentless commitment of our detectives and officers to work together and bring those responsible to justice.”
