Statement from Sheriff Anthony Cureton on August 14th Parole Hearing for Stephen Perry:

Today Stephen Perry, who was convicted felon for the murder of on-duty Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer Joseph Rybka, is scheduled to appear before the New Jersey State Parole Board once again seeking consideration for parole.

I strongly urge the State of New Jersey Parole Board deny Stephen Perry’s most recent consideration for parole. Forty years ago, Perry caused tremendous pain for the northern New Jersey law enforcement community when he took the life of Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer Joseph Rybka on January 6, 1979.

Bergen County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad Unit

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ, After passing the legislature unanimously, Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill reimbursing county prosecutors overseeing state and interstate law enforcement agencies. The law, sponsored by Assemblyman Kevin Rooney, was drafted after the Bergen County Prosecutors Office had to investigate the Palisades Parkway Police Department over eight months.

“Local taxpayers cannot afford to fund investigations into state agencies,” said Rooney (R-Bergen). “Prosecutor’s work on tight budgets, and they need to be responsible with every dollar. If a state agency is acting out of order, the state should be on the hook.”

Bergen prosecutors had to examine the Palisades department for violating guidelines on high-speed chases and investigations of officer misconduct. The office also examined deaths of suspects and a scandal involving the police chief. The bill is retroactive to January 1, 2017 to cover the costs of the investigation.

Lightning speed internet

The need for faster internet is pushing the technology forward every day. Since most of the work nowadays is done online, companies and businesses are requiring very fast responses from their employees and it is researchers’ and engineers’ job to make that possible for them. They are developing the fastest internet ever seen, whose speed they compare to the speed of lightning. If that is achieved, it will increase the efficiency of the workers and improve communication in companies. The engineers believe that 5G will change the world as much as our regular internet changed it a long time ago.
