Trenton NJ, Behind its continued call for no more taxes and for structural reforms as part of the FY2020 State Budget, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association today re-released its budget data from this year to further underscore why the Garden State desperately needs to reverse course.

“With less than two weeks remaining before the state’s budget deadline, it’s imperative that our policymakers fully understand New Jersey’s fiscal standing,” said NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka. “New Jersey’s debt and pension obligations continue to escalate at unsustainable rates and the FY2019 State Budget alone forced $1.6 billion in higher taxes on our businesses and residents.

Phil Murphy

It is clear that democratic policies no longer exist. In their stead we have an oligarchy of business interests and socialists. A match made in hell indeed.

The business interests want continued expansion of the consumer economy not by making better products or paying better salaries, but rather by taking away consumers’ ability to not buy their product. Think sickcare and college as top performers.

Ridgewood NJ, Christine Todd Whitman was parading herself on CNN knocking President on environmental issues. Whitman is same person that said “yes it’s save to breath the air during 9-11”. The same person that started the destruction of the NJ Public Employees Pension System. The same person that was a RINO for her entire term as Governor. How many people did she kill from cancer with that famous 9-21 call? Some folks have no shame!

WASHINGTON DC, The Internal Revenue Service today clarified the tax treatment of state and local tax refunds arising from any year in which the new limit on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction is in effect.

In Revenue Ruling 2019-11 (PDF), posted today on IRS.gov, the IRS provided four examples illustrating how the long-standing tax benefit rule interacts with the new SALT limit to determine the portion of any state or local tax refund that must be included on the taxpayer’s federal income tax return. Today’s announcement does not affect state tax refunds received in 2018 for tax returns currently being filed.

Katie Brennan Demands: “‘Hold Accountable Those Who Failed To Take Action’ In Administration”

Trenton NJ, Following is a statement from Katie Brennan in response to the Select Oversight Committee report issued today:

“The findings of this report confirm what I have known all along–that sexual violence survivors in this state still cannot expect to receive justice. I waved a red flag at every turn of this process, and at every turn, I went unheard. And while my story should cause outrage, what should be even more disturbing is the knowledge that I am only one of countless survivors in our state who have gone voiceless and whose assaulters remain unaccountable. To our lawmakers, you now have a mandate–take meaningful action to create real accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence and for those who would protect them. To the Administration, you have a mandate as well, to hold accountable those who failed to take action or actively protected Al Alvarez. To truly claim the moral authority to implement a strong, pro-women, progressive policy agenda, the individuals in your senior leadership who have been complicit must be held to account.”

Phil Murphy

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Republicans are calling for transparency from Gov. Phil Murphy, demanding that he reveal the identity of the dark money donors behind political action committee pushing higher taxes in New Jersey. And, they are asking the Bergen Democrats to demand the same.

Bergen Freeholder candidates Corrado Belgiovine, Alyssa Dawson and Katie Cericola said the secrecy around the funding of a group known as New Direction New Jersey – which is using online ads to push Murphy’s high tax agenda – including the millionaire’s tax — is disturbing and detrimental to the state’s taxes and the economy.

Rating Agency Warns New Jersey Not Prepared for the Next Recession

Phil Murphy

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Trenton NJ, Treasurer Elizabeth Muoio is right about New Jersey needing a much bigger surplus than the one being proposed right now. But the same analyst she cited in support of her position also has suggested that raising the millionaires tax is the wrong way to go, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association said this morning.

“NJBIA agrees with the Treasurer that New Jersey should have a much bigger surplus than it has now, and the one being proposed by the Murphy administration is the largest we’ve had in a long time,” said Andrew Musick, NJBIA vice president for Government Affairs. “That’s to the governor’s credit. But the way to grow New Jersey’s surplus is through the structural spending reforms that were introduced by legislators last week, not raising taxes in an economy that’s been growing for years and remains strong.”

Reader says , “Ummm, those unfunded pension liabilities are based on some outrageous assumptions”

Phill Murphy -Sara Medina del Castillo

“Ummm, those unfunded pension liabilities are based on some outrageous assumptions:

1. The State Investment Council assumes an annual return of 7.5% on the NJ state pension assets; a 30 year US treasury (which matches a long term pension liability) currently yields 2.825%. Pew Charitable Trusts suggests 6.5% is a more conservative assumption, which would increase the unfunded liability by 28% versus the current assumption assuming 7.5% annualized returns…

Trenton NJ, The legislative introduction of the fiscal reforms and cost saving initiatives from the “Path to Progress” report has already generated widespread support from an array of individuals and organizations throughout New Jersey, including:

“The state of New Jersey faces short and long term challenges. I was pleased to be part of the ‘Path to Progress’ team as several of our recommendations will significantly improve the fiscal health of the state – particularly those related to employee pension and health benefits, and school consolidation. Of particular note – even with the pension reforms – no current retiree or those employees already vested will be negatively impacted.” – Richard F. Keevey, former Budget Director and Comptroller for the State of New Jersey, former CFO, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and former Deputy Under Secretary for Finance, U.S. Department of Defense

Trenton NJ, New Jersey State Police , “On this day forty-six years ago, Trooper Werner Foerster made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his fellow troopers and the citizens of our State. As an organization, we ensure that every trooper, past and present, honored with wearing the blue and gold uniform of a New Jersey State Trooper remembers the life and death of Trooper Foerster, but it is equally important that the public also remembers,” said Colonel Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police. “Our pursuit of Joanne Chesimard will not cease until she is returned to New Jersey to serve out the remainder of her prison sentence for the brutal murder of Trooper Werner Foerster. We owe it to the Foerster family, the State Police Family, and every family member who has suffered the devastating loss of a loved one killed in the line of duty.”
