>After former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker was appointed in 1979, the consumer price index surged into the double digits, causing the now revered Fed Chief to double the benchmark interest rate in order to break the back of inflation. Using the methodology in place at that time puts the CPI back near those levels.
Inflation, using the reporting methodologies in place before 1980, hit an annual rate of 9.6 percent in February, according to the Shadow Government Statistics newsletter.
Although on a much smaller, less dramatic scale, the democracy movement in Bergen County – which has been underway for several years – has not only taken root, but judging by yesterday’s convention, it has started to flower as well.
Under the leadership of Chairman Lou Stellato, the newly named Democratic Committee of Bergen County (DCBC) held its first convention yesterday, and it was unlike anything in recent memory. Small group discussions of ethics and municipal government. The full complement of the Party’s leadership – all accessible and all collegial. And a contested election conducted impartially and respectively in the light of day.
For some, particularly traditional critics, the convention was “refreshing.” For most, if not all, it was “promising.” Simply stated, Stellato and his team helped put the “d” back in democrat, and it did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Granted, the convention was not perfect, and the Party still has some healing and growing to do. But to have some of the Party’s “old guard” mixing informally and comfortably under the same roof with Bergen Grassroots leaders — not to mention a wide range of other voices and perspectives — spoke volumes about the changing nature of Bergen Democratic politics.
More unity. More civility. And a whole lot more democracy. Taken together, the convention – in form and substance — signaled a new day for Bergen Democrats.
It certainly made for a good Sunday afternoon in April. Something tells me that it may also make for a good Tuesday night in November.

The US lacks a “credible strategy” to stabilise its mounting public debt posing a small but significant risk of a new global economic crisis, says the International Monetary Fund.
In an unusually stern rebuke to its largest shareholder, the IMF said the US was the only advanced economy to be increasing its underlying budget deficit in 2011 at a time when its economy was growing fast enough to reduce borrowing.
>Reader warns an H ZONE let’s Valley do what it wants
Beware small print. Surely there are some smaller issues being addressed here that will not favor the saving face of the village but the the new town VALLEYWOOD. The H Zone that changes Ridgewood, folks!!!!
Wake up your neighbors before it is too late. There has been much discussion about how this affects what the next group running Valley wants to do because the Village will have nothing to say when Valley decides to add 10 more stories.
An H ZONE let’s Valley do what it wants to do in its H ZONE and all we can do will be to watch them double, trible etc etc. Nice job, VOR.
The Ridgewood blog ( https://theridgewoodblog.blogspot.com/ ) was founded in March of 2006 by James J Foytlin aka PJ Blogger .[1] Mr. Foytlin was born and raised in Ridgewood ,New Jersey and is a graduate of Ridgewood High School .[2] [3]
After many years living in New York City[4] Mr Foytlin returned to Ridgewood after a divorce and the tragic events of 9/11 . Once he settled in he noticed a lack of sufficient news coverage of local events . One day a friend from Brazil[5] showed him her home town on the internet and to Mr. Foytlin’s great surprise when he tried to reciprocate he was utterly dismayed at the absolute lake coverage of his home town. After all Ridgewood is only 18 miles from midtown Manhattan[6] the media capital of world and there was not a single picture of Ridgewood to be found . How could this be? Ridgewood is a picturesque upper middle class village of around 25,000 located in Bergen county in northern New Jersey[7] . Founded by Dutch settlers before it became an English colony[8] . The town or village as its called is steeped in rich history and tradition .Known for a large amount of Victorian era housing , a quality school system and a family friendly atmosphere.
Though busy getting reacquainted with his home town the fact that the Village of Ridgewood was so under represented on the internet continued to disturb Mr. Foytlin. Mr. Foytlin had been writing news letters for his job in financial services since the mid 1990’s . The popular flip, off beat investment strategy news letters had become email blasts with the advent of readily accessible internet.[9] By 2004 the email blasts were converted into blog format for the One Small Voice blog ( https://onesmallvoice.blogspot.com/ ). [10]
Around that time the Village of Ridgewood had finally completed it’s much anticipated and long delayed renovation of the Village hall which has been flooded out due to Hurricane Floyd.[11] The renovation was marred by huge cost over runs and lengthy delays. In 2005 it opened with great fan fare , was once again flooded with the very first rain . Mr. Foytlin was more shocked by the abject lack of responsibility taken by elected officials than the fact that the $9 million dollar renovation had to some extent been a failure . That was the breaking point and Mr. Foytlin had had enough so he decided to give , citizen journalism a go and created the Ridgewood blog in March of 2006. [12]
The birth of PJ Blogger .By this time Blogging its seems had become quite the rage and mainstream news anchors such as Dan Rather had questioned the validity of information from non professionals sitting around in their Pajama’s blogging.[13] Mr. Foytlin not a fan of Dan Rather or any of the mainstream media decided to blog under the name PJ Blogger as a play on words and to plant himself firmly in the camp of the new digital media.
Innovations by the Ridgewood blog to citizen journalism.
“The Fly” is a column on the Ridgewood blog the originates from the expression ,”I’d like to be a fly on the wall “ . The idea is that every citizen has both a unique perspective and experience and these two factors can be used to gather news and opinions about local issues. Originally only of handful of people in town participated but with time the Ridgewood blog can now count on 20–40 semi regular contributors. These post are both anonymous and signed and are largely opinion as well a breaking news.[14]
The Ridgewood blog brings a free market lassie fare point of view to local issues . Mr. Foytlin aka PJ Blogger has stated that for local issues there are only two kinds of people ;the ones who say spend what every you want because I will not be around to pay the bill and the second group which are more focused on the ,”be careful this is my money your spending” . The Ridgewood blog is dedicated to the interplay of there two groups.[15]

Ridgewood school adopts new homework policy Friday, April 1, 2011 BY KELLY EBBELS THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS STAFF WRITER
A new rule is on the books for all math classes at Benjamin Franklin (BF) Middle School, geared toward relieving students’ stress and promoting well being.
Benjamin Franklin Middle School recently adopted a new math homework policy that has become popular among parents, students and teachers. The policy: If a student doesn’t finish homework within an allotted time set by the teacher, a parent or guardian can sign the paper where they left off, and the student receives full credit.
Implemented a month ago, Principal Tony Orsini said the new policy has so far been popular with parents, students and even teachers – who have said it has helped their students focus, and given teachers the information they need to better tailor their homework and their lessons to students who just aren’t grasping the concepts of quadratic equations or other subjects.
The light and turf debacle are a distant memory now….people have short memories.
It’s not easy to predict how this election will pan out but let’s take a look…
Sheila – her base is reliable and they will remember to vote. 1600 votes.
Laurie – similar to Sheila, she has a faithful group of followers…I say 1500 votes.
Chris – the wildcard…it’s not a secret that she is the overwhelming recommendation of the CRR (anti-Valley crowd). That’s worth 600-700 votes alone. This is hard to forecast but I think she earns 1200 total votes. That’s not a bad number for a first-timer with limited name recognition (so far).
All bets are off however if folks get strategic and only vote for one person…i.e. Selective Voting. That scenario will keep Ms Krauss close to the leaders.

Look into the increased number of students that are tutored over the years. Ask parents why they are having their students tutored. Ask the tutors that are advertised as supported by the HSA what they are tutoring the students. The answers are close at hand. You just have to open your eyes and face the realities and then have the guts to require that the BOE become more fiducially responsible.
Every one of the 25,000 citizens in VOR have been faced with that same responsibility for their own families. Everyone suffers increased healthcare costs, etc.
Everyone suffers possible loss of job if they don’t preform. There are no guarantees. This is not a dress rehearsal folks. This is the real thing
